I use the Curtis Gov and it works good for me. I have +-12 on my pitch and I have plenty of punch.

Assuming you run a OS 50 Hyper, you can get more pop by going to 2100 or even 2150 HS. Your 2000 HS puts you smack at the peak of the torque curve (17,000 rpm) for the 50H and a 8.5 gear ratio. It is better to run just past the peak so that when the blades bog and the HS slows a bit your engine will fall to the torque peak instead of down from the peak torque. You will also have more stored energy in the faster spinning blades to provide pop.
I agree that your engine may need a rebuild. My 600N doesn't bog at 2000 HS (ID1) using ±11° and 30% nitro unless I really get sloppy on collective. Almost impossible to bog at 2150 HS (ID2) on my machine.
