that is usually from misalignment to clutch gear. If misaligned, you will usually see some black powder being thrown off in flights leading up to a failure. The gear teeth get thinner and thinner until they fail. Take a close look at the teeth and compare to a new gear and look at your helo's body, frame for the back 'powder'.

Hello Greg, I'm Diego from Italy.
I fly GSR260+PUH26 since 2004.
That happened to me about 5 times.
First I ask you, if you could remember: in the still I can see the half main gear with the stripped teeth, what about the other half main gear?
See you later.
Diego

Like Brett said, check your bearing block above your main pinion. If the starter socket does not rotate freely then you'll have problems and the bearing will heat up and transfer heat to the main gear.

Obviously, your clutch pinion and main gear have to mesh properly. We had one that was slightly off and it turned out to be the engine mounting plate was slightly bowed causing misalignment once the engine was bolted into place. Check your mounting plate with a straight edge for any bows and keep an eye on the main gear, the main pinion bearing, and the temperature of main gear, pinion, and bearing block after flights. A good way to check your mesh is to feed a 2" piece of aluminum foil through the gears and check the impression it makes once it comes out. If the peaks and valleys are the same, then you're OK. If they are "skewed" then the alignment is off. You can also get the mesh too tight so be careful about that too.

Good luck and sorry to hear about the misfortune. Did you have to auto the GSR?

Thanks!

Tony

I've stripped about 4 main gears (black type) in my GSR. Afer the second failure (heavy-loaded + autorotation...) I've noticed that the main gear teeth were melted due to high temperature of the clutch bell and main pinion.

After rebuild with payed attention to any alignments I had the same problems. Usually, in second or third test flight, after about 5 mins of hovering and lowly flying - Crack & Ziiiiip... I couldn't put my finger on the clutch bell before it happend.

Sure, remember about the exact alignment of the whole gear set as stated above, but the best solution of this problem FOR ME was something called 'HG Clutch set' from JR. This clutch is much bigger and obviously better for high payloads.

I'm using that high grade clutch for about 3 months with WHITE main gear and everything is OK (excluding my one-way bearings, but that's another mysterious story).

Just my dollar + 2 cents.

Hello dear friends.
Firstly I would like to ask to murdock77 where I can buy the "HG Clutch set" from JR.
Second, since I've stripped about 4 times my GSR black delrin main gear I suppose now that one big reason could be the mesh between main and rear pinion.
Best regard!
Diego

Are the upgraded clutches available commercially?

If so, where did you get this one from Jakub?

What advantage do they offer over the stock version ?

Hello KarbonBird,

The HG clutch set is an original JR PROPO part, just like the JRM260 Muffler, these are optional upgrades that JR PROPO produces for their Voyager GSR260.

The HG clutch is much beefier and almost twice the size of the original clutch set that comes stock with the heli, so you can carry a bigger payload and you don't have the problem of the clutch slipping nor the bell overheating.
I can't say how much of a bigger payload you can carry, but It's not going to be a major difference because the heli can only handle so much... It's more of a reassurance that your clutch will not slip anymore

We are a JR distributor so we stock these parts. If you need anymore information just let me know

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Jakub
