| Like Brett said, check your bearing block above your main pinion. If the starter socket does not rotate freely then you'll have problems and the bearing will heat up and transfer heat to the main gear.
Obviously, your clutch pinion and main gear have to mesh properly. We had one that was slightly off and it turned out to be the engine mounting plate was slightly bowed causing misalignment once the engine was bolted into place. Check your mounting plate with a straight edge for any bows and keep an eye on the main gear, the main pinion bearing, and the temperature of main gear, pinion, and bearing block after flights. A good way to check your mesh is to feed a 2" piece of aluminum foil through the gears and check the impression it makes once it comes out. If the peaks and valleys are the same, then you're OK. If they are "skewed" then the alignment is off. You can also get the mesh too tight so be careful about that too.
Good luck and sorry to hear about the misfortune. Did you have to auto the GSR?
Thanks!
