Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > Futaba 9253 & 9254 problem?

I've had both a Futaba 9253 and a 9254 TR servo fail in my raptor 30 in the past 2 years. I'm using it with a 401 gyro with a sensitivity setting of around 70-74 on my 9c. The 9253 did last about 4.5 years but the 9254 only lasted about 1.5 years. I'm wondering if others are having longevity problems with these servos? The heli only gets about 30 flights a year.

BTW in both cases I suddenly had a lot of boom wagging and drifting in HH and the heli was about unflyable in normal mode. I caught both before a crash and the problem was corrected by swapping out the servo.

There as been many reports of these servos not lasting the distance.

Good to know how they fail, might be able to save the ship...

Keep your eyes in the sky I might be Flying Yeeeeeh!!!!

Ive been useing the 9254 and 401 gyro on all my helis and havnt had a problem yet. The oldest 9254 i have is two and a half years old and no problems yet. Now it hasnt been doing hard 3D stuff but its working fairly hard. Each heli burns around 11 gallon of fuel a year so thats a lot of flights. Now that i have mentioned it, the 9254 will probably fail the next time i take the heli out.

If it doesnt move and its meant too... use WD 40. If it moves and its not meant too...use duct tape!

Well...
I put in a new 9254 I had and I still had what I thought was wagging. I never though to feel the tr servo and see if it is hot because I thought my sensitivity at 72 was ok. After the first test flight with the new 9254 I found the servo very hot. The next flight I began cranking the sensitivity down. I got to 48 and was still having some wagging (I now feel its more like hunting) and an overheated tr servo. Obviously I have a gyro problem and replaced the 401 with a new one today. The hunting pretty much is gone and the servo is no longer hot but warm. Is this normal? BTW at this time, I'm at 68 on the sensitivity (9C).

Mine gets hot also. Not sure what the problem is. The gyro is only a couple of months old. Maybe its supposed to be like that. Maybe someone else will chime in.

We need video proof around here.

Is your boom wagging or hunting? What is your sensitivity set at? I would try lowering the sensitivity and see if the servo doesn't get as hot. Mine was fairly warm at 68 on the new gyro. I would have like to try a lower sensitivity but I was have some tracking issues with the woodies I currently have on the heli.

Well I thought I'd update this thread. Turns out the problem was that I didn't use the correct double side tape to secure the gyro. What I used held well but had too much foam. This allowed the gyro to vibrate and over heat the TR servo. Remounted the gyro with the correct tape and problem solved.
