I have some "Mystery" 1500mAh 25C packs I purchased from Ebay that I use in a fixed wing electric. So Far So good. I have about 15 flights through each of the 2 of them so far.

I will add that with these packs I always use the Esky Balance charger to charge it. My bigger fixed wing batteries are charged on a computer charger.

I have a computer charger w/ a fast charge option but have yet to use it at the field. I wonder how many people charge at the field and destroy a pack by not letting it cool down first? Probably people that don't read forums?

Most guys stay away from the "cheapy" packs but I have had good luck with them. I sill have 6 Hong Kong Fleebays specials - 16. bucks a pop, almost a year old and show no signs of puffin. Some packs are just relabled and are actually the same cells as "name brand". Of course some are not, it's a gamble, but the proof is always in the end result. Stocky, I've come across that website before and not only are the prices really low but the free shipping is nice as well.

My buddy uses the mystery packs in a HBFP. He called me one day and told me one had puffed and asked me why. I asked him what he was putting back in mAh wise, flight time etc etc you know the drill.. Anyway, he tells me he has no idea, he just flies with them until the heli won't lift of any more, throws them on an ESKY charger till the light goes green. In a year and a half of doing this, this is the first problem he has had with them.

Sadly enough this is exactly how most people use LiPos. I met a plank guy once that said the same thing but with a 3800mAh 10c common sense pack. He said he had about 200 cycles on it and has never once balance charged it or knew how much of it he used. Makes you think maybe we are too paranoid but then again we are using the packs harder than any other use.

I had to throw 2 2200 20C mystery pack after roughly 50 flights on each of then. Flight time reduced 11 minutes to 4 minutes. No puffing though...

I'm not avocating buying the cheaper packs per say just relaying my own experience. Ultimately I think your better off getting a proven quality pack, especially one with a 50 percent replacement program and some customer service behind it.

I have to disagree. I have had 5 flight power packs go bad on me.
2 1800mAh 2 2170 and 1 $300 6S 4900.
OK I will accept that I may have been to blame for the 1800's as I was a green horn and was discharging them to <20% >10% all the time, but the 2 2170's and the 4900 were treated with kid gloves and puffed for no reason what so ever. The 2170 was replaced free of charge, the replacement puffed as well. The 4900 was not replaced nor would they offer a deal on a new one.

If you do the math, even if a cheapo pack lasts only 50% of a "brand name" it still comes out ahead for cost per flight.
This of course would be a moot point if the failure of a pack caused the loss of the heli.

For big packs and basic hovering, I think the answer is that any pack will work. For smaller packs or hard use packs, I think the name brands will win most every time. It really comes down to the actual LiPo cells. If they are good ones, the packs will be good no matter what the brand. I know from personal experience that Mega Power packs work great for basic stuff but drop voltage pretty quick, get fairly hot and are big and heavy. Did they puff? No. Was I more pleased with better packs? Yes.

It all depends on your need and requirements.
