Me and my friend setup a EP100 with Spectrum Before it get any air it keep shutting down in test spin up's in the house.

It will spin up and glitch, it will resume. We changed Servo's, Motors and different RX, replacement RX from spectrum, Different ESC (Different name but same) noting cured.

Until we got a different ESC from some odd ball company and finally problem was solved!


We found that A lot of ESC are SAME with different branding!

There is a BL ESC on the pic its tiny. Guai came with Tiny ESC as well. Now it has a slightly bigger heavier ESC on it and seems to work better. Same ESC on FM RX cause no problem at all.

it was more like noises were feeding back into RX and locking up.

Yes, it's a BL ESC for the brushless main motor. The 18A (22A burst) Pentium ESC I'm using is of good quality and is fully programmable: http://donsrc.com/cart/index.php?ac...od&productId=5. The Pentium is plenty for the Arc 80 brushless motor. The Arc 80 is only drawing about 10-12A.

Also, regarding the ESC shutting down due to heat, the over-heat protection feature will reduce power once the ESC reaches 230F. I have monitored the ESC temp on numerous flights and the warmest I have recorded is 115F. Usually the ESC temps range from 100-110F. Therefore, heat is not the issue.

Anyway, I think I solved the signal loss problem. I relocated the AR6100 to the rear of the heli with both antenna wires exposed outside of the heli. I also positioned the DX7 antenna 90 degrees to the left (parallel to the ground) as recommended by the Spektrum technician. I flew 4 packs today without incident. I also really push the limit (well, the limit of my eyesight, anyway ) and flew the Super FP straight out from me about 150 yards away, turned the heli 180 degrees and flew back nose-in and right at me for the 150 yards back. No signal problems at all.

the reason the tech said run it parallel with the ground is he asumed your receiver was mounted with antenna's horizontally but yours were vertical.

Guess you wont be coming over to the darkside after all.

Yes, I assumed the technician thought I had my AR6100 antennas positioned horizontally, which is how I repositioned them.

Well, you never know...I may end up coming over to the dark side if I continue to have problems. However, I'll give Spektrum the benefit of the doubt for now.

Your 2 receiver antennas should be 90 degrees to each other. Your pictures show them 180 degrees to each other. Try bending one 90 degrees, any direction, just so it is in a different orientation than the other one.

I only run Spectrum AR6x00 receivers (Belt CP & BCPP) - in tight spaces, under/over ESCs, right beside the BL motor, etc - and have never had a signal loss.

Not great pictures, but you can see the antennas are 90 degrees to each other...

Hopefully that corrects your problem!

I know that the two receivers in the AR6200 have to be positioned at 90 degrees to each other; however, I never heard of bending one of the AR6100 antennas at 90 degrees to the other. Even on Spektrum's web site, the following photos illustrate the antennae being 180 degrees to each other:

Hmm, interesting, I experienced a "signal loss" with an AR6100v1.2 on my T-Rex 500 a few weeks ago. It caused a $360 crash.

I had around 500 flights before this incident without changing my setup. Receiver was mounted sticking out the back of heli.

I replaced it with an AR6200, never did much digging to figure out what the problem was. However, when I powered up the receiver on the bench after the crash, it wouldn't connect, LED just blinking slowly.

racin06 - you are correct! I will have to find out where I saw the tip about orientation.

However, I have not had signal loss yet; and you can see how I cram the AR6100 into my BCPP...

When you figure it out, please post the results.

I used to run the antennae at 90 but did some testing and found that 120 works better. This because its not actually two different recievers, but a diapole antenna. See this for more info
