I have been flying and learning on the Pantera for about a year now. I have always been kind of conservative in my choice of things such as servos(futaba 3151's to start)fuel(cool power 15%) and setup(running the 1 to 1 on the seesaw arms and only 9 degrees on the collective). I have just started here lately to want more. I just upgraded the 3151's to the futaba BLS 451's on the collective, BIG CHANGE from what I was use to, and the heli picked up a more crisper feel to the collective/cyclic mix. They started to really work the hyper 50 in a nice way but it still wasn't as snappy as I wanted it to be plus I started to get engine bog on the climb outs with the faster servos and really wasn't sure what to do about it. I am 1 of 3 pilots in our club that flys helis, the rest are plank drivers so not much help there. Well I decided that since the engine is loading harder maybe it's time to upgrade the fuel as well. All I can say is HOLY S__T!!! This thing came alive with the 30% nitro to the point where I am thinking now I will have to put in some expo in order to control it! With the extra power and the faster servos it is as crisp as I could ever ask for in this stage of my flying/learning. I was doing pitch pumping yo yo's and the stopping at the end points was like it was on a string!! The heli is extremely more authoritive in anything I was trying to do with it, my only complaint was that it was getting dark and didn't have enough time to run another tank.
I'm like a kid in a candy store and the wife even noticed me grining when I came in the door.
Just thought Id share.

Everytime I resist something like you just mentioned, after I finally give in and try it, I wonder why I resisted it. I still run 15% fuel but when I gave in to Radix carbon blades vs. sport carbon blades all I could say was wow! When I cranked up the headspeed or added spacers to increase throws to speed up cyclic, it was again wow. When I went to painted fiberglass canopies the fleet now looks...well, wow! Congrats on the fuel change. I'm still fighting the good fight on 15% for now but you confirm that I am leaving a lot more power on the table so I'll keep that in mind! They say the 20% fuels are a great compromise. As I reach the power limits of my setups and run through the rest of the 15% I have on hand (11 gallons to go), you may convince me to at least step up to the 20%.

Servos and fuel

Well to be honest I thought that the only thing I was missing was the servos. I never would have believed that fuel could truly make that much of a difference. Suffice it to say "WOW" was I ever wrong!!! With just these 2 changes the Pantera has become the Heli I hoped it would. The servos weren't cheap by any means and really made a big difference, but it took the addition of the fuel as well to be able to bring them to their full potential. The nice thing here is that I am still running them on 4.8 volts so when it's time for more I can just go up to 6 volts and gain about 30 more ozs of torque and .03 on the speed.

hehe, I had to reread your post. At first glance I thought you were saying the servos were rated for .03 at 6 volts! I got it now.
