Hey, would it make sense that I might have a slight temporary rub in the clutch when installing a new one? I glued in the blue 3D clutch material into a new 90 3D clutch bell and have a new clutch shoe on my OS70. It dial indicated to .002 so I know I'm good to go there and near as I can tell the engine is aligned to the clutch bell. The initial couple of starts were a little rough with the clutch grabbing as I was trying to start it. I purposely started and stopped the heli 4 or 5 times, running it up slowly from idle, stopping in the range where the clutch starts to take hold and then a little beyond to run in the parts. By the 5th or 6th start everything seems good now. Is what I experienced sort of to be expected?

I run the exact same set up bell, liner clutch and engine on my R60 and it never rubs.. I use JB weld for liner and I put 2 raps of black electric tape on clutch and shove it in there wait a day and it usually give me a .008" clearance and on first start I can idle pretty high no rubbing...

If you did not put tape and shove clutch in while curring it would be tighter. It will ware in but your clearance is a bit tight..

It's normal to have to run in a new clutch liner. better to have to run in than to have too much clearance which reduces the life span of the clutch.

I myself use black tape for gapping but most people don't!

The liner was spaced properly when it was glued in. By ear, the clutch starts picking up just about where you would expect it to so I dont think I'm risking springing a shoe. I think everything is good. I probably had a little high spot it had to run through. I'll know for sure of course when it finally flies.

MartyH-
If you mentioned you used a dial indicator on the clutch!
Where did you get the .002 measurement you indicated on your post?
Let me know, I'll explain..
