i am getting my new trex 500 soon and would like to get servo that is a great performer yet with metal gears.

i was looking at the jr 3421mg, hitec 5245 mg and the z3650 which i think is jr.. also open to other suggestions.

thanks for all and any help..

i was thinking of running jr 3400g on the tail... anybody have good luck with that.. i have an extra one and thought that would work well... i am running a 7703d gyro..

i am using hitecs 5245mg's and they are great. Alot of people don't like them but I can't find any probs at all, and at a great price.
Plus they come with a great servo arm tapped at the right centre for the pushrods, that got my vote.

Good luck

I don't know about BEST, but I am having very good results using Hitec 85MG's. Not digital, but excellent results anyway. Also not very expensive.

Now "best" can be looked at several ways. I think the best servo for my use will be the HS-82mg. No they are not digital. No they are not high end. But they are cheap and do work well. And for $22 each, they are a bargain.

not to try and thread jack but I am not a huge metal gear fan and I am considering the trex 500. I was thinking of the 9650 servos on the cyclic and 9257 on the tail with a ds760 gyro. What is your opinion.

I hear the MG get sloppy alot faster then the non metal gears.

Trex 500 SA Aluminum frame CC80,Ino-lab servos, 611, +15.5-15.5 pitch.

they do and if you crash with nylon gears you really only have to change the gear sets and thats it and that is only if you really goober it up. The metal gears get sloppy real quick.

The best mini digital servo with metal gears running at 6V max for your cyclic, at this time, is the 3517mg. It's similar to the z3650, with the exception that the 3517 has longer leads for us heli pilots.

You are indeed correct about metal gears, getting sloppy quicker that plastics, but I think you will find that the metal gears will stay slop free for longer on an electric heli. It is without doubt the vibrations fromm the engine and airframe that wear the metal gears. With an electric set the vibration is much less and your gears last longer.

Good luck

Okay, I just broke down and ordered my set-up. I'm dying to see what the hype is all about with this bird.

Question on the digital servos . . . (using Spectrum AR6100E RX and Stock ESC/BEC) . . . Do digital servos require the 5.1V Step-Down Regulator?

For tail, I went with 401/9257 and would assume the servo requires the step-down as was required with my 450 set-up.

For cyclic, I went with HS5245-MG's - do they require step-down or will they run at 6V.

I've seen conflicting stories of people not needing step-downs with the 9257, but maybe they're using external BEC?. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the links. The specs on Hi-Tec's site wouldn't load their PDF and the 9257 has N/A listed for 6V power specs, so I assume that's a no go?

According to this link the BEC is adjustable:
http://www.align.com.tw/shop/produc...roducts_id=1993

Do most folks prefer to run the 5245's at 6V and use the step-down for the 9257?
