Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > 401 "is it good enough?"

Hi, I just ordered my new "jr vibe 90" which I am very excited about. Until now I have been flying a "raptor 50" with a Futaba 401 gyro. I have absolutely no complaints about the 401. However, I was not doing any backwards flight. Since then I have gotten pretty comfortable with backwards flight on the simulator. Now its time to order a new gyro for my "Vibe 90". Do you guys think that a 401 will be sufficient? I intend to do plenty of backwards flight and 3d with my new Vibe. If you dont thing the 401 is good enough, what would you recommend? I dont really want to spend $300 on a gyro, but if thats what it will take. Then thats what it will get.

Thanks for any help.

Why would you get a Vibe 90 only to think about cheaping out on the gyro? The 401 works yes, but for what $100 more give or take you can get a top of the line gyro like Spartan or Solid-G that far outflies the 401. $300 gets you the servo too which no matter what gyro you use its about the same cost.

A 401 on a Vibe is just a waist of a good helicopter. A 611 is fine but is bulky and can only use a BLS241 or s9256 servo. Why limit your self, do it rite the first time and get a spartan. They pop up for sale here and there. I just bought one last week from Ready Heli. They are the best and only $219.

Solid G is a nice option for that Helicopter, lots of room for electronics.

Also, the 770 3D is not a bad gyro. A bit over $200 with the 8900G.

I'd pick up either a JR 770 3d or a Solid G. Both give much better performance than the 401, and the 770 costs the same as the 401. I've got both, and when set up well both handle basckwards flight and 3d without blowing out. Great gyros, but I like the feel of the Solid G better.

Rap 90 3D, OS 91 HZ, Hattori, Fut 2.4 GHz, 3 x BLS 451, Solid G/ BLS 251, ATG, Radix 690.

My vote goes to the Spartan. (I haven't tried a Solid-G for performance comparison.) The Spartan 760 works awesome, only one small box to find a spot for, and they work without a lot of screwing around with gains, rates and servo arm lengths to get rid of bounce-back yet keep the taillock (aka 770). I also own a 770. It's on the wall in a bag since I got the Spartans.
