Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 30 Pitch down in FFF

My Raptor used to be pretty neutral in FFF. Recently, I replaced my stock paddles with the lightweight green ones and now I have a noticeable pitch down in FFF or hovering into a headwind. If I logic through it, it seems to indicate the paddles are not correctly aligned. Can their angle be tuned to counter any pitch up from the main blades so that there is no residual pitch up or down in FFF? Haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

I also might be very slightly tail heavy.... would FFF simply magnify the resulting forward cyclic trim, and moreso with the lighter paddles?

Balance and paddle alignment are critical with the ligher paddles.

Check you haven't had one of the elevator arms come off the swash - you lose the push/pull and on my 30 at least, it became very pitchy in forward flight. However, I doubt that you would have done a few flights and not noticed an elevator arm flopping aorund

But +1 for BH's comment.

No, elevator arms are fine. I suspect it is alignment. The paddles were given to me at the field and I stuck them on at the field. I thought I got them straight using my pitch gage, but I'll have a closer look.

I have a friend that has been complaining of the same problem after switching to the light paddles on his Raptor 50. He install an Align head and the problem went away. Sounds extreme but it worked for him.

If the wings are traveling faster than the fuselage, it's probably a helicopter.

Even when aligned I found the green paddles to be quite pitchy in forward flight.

It's fine if you are doing continuous 3D, but a bit of a pain if you are just a sport flyer.

I've ended up using the white paddles as a compromise, these are much better behaved and still reasonably fast if that's what you are after...

You can adjust the paddles to compensate for slight pitching up or down. If I recall correctly, you give them both a slight bias angle in the direction you want the correction to be made.

which, of course, makes the problem doubly bad when inverted.

Light paddles tend to pitch towards the ground in fast flight. It's a matter of physics.

Do the mixing arm mod. That will get rid of the problem. This mod lowers the flybar ratio.

I always experienced pitchiness using the green paddles even when perfectly aligned. I switched to stubz and never looked back. They are expensive, but they are faster than the greens and track great.

I dialed in one degree positive on both paddles and the pitch down seems to be gone. But they are still pitchy in general, so maybe I'll try the Stubz......

Stubz might be worse. I have always ran ultra light paddles(tt Stubz) and they are all alittle pitchy for me. If you like fast FF you may want to consider heavier paddles. I stick with ultras because i like quick flips and dont mind alittle pitchyness.

Well, it flew great with the stock paddles. It is a bit pitchy with the green paddles but I do like the quicker response.... I even tried some consecutive flips with them (that's aggressive for me). Maybe the white paddles? Or put a couple wheel collars on the flybar with the green ones (since I have them already)?

The green paddles are 20g and the white paddles are 25g - so could try adding 5g (wheel collars) to each at the ends of the flybar to see how that feels...

I've got a R50 and I also found the green paddles too pitchy, for me (and the machine - bigger blades than the R30) the white paddles work very well. They are certainly quicker than the stock black ones.

If you don't mind experimenting, give it a go!

Although I agree that light paddles in general are more pitchy than heavier ones, I can assure you that the stubz track much better than the greens even though they are lighter. Their airfoil and shape are different.
