Hey guys

I'm looking into getting a sim (crashing my cx2 a little too often

I can't seem to find a guide on how the whole hardware/sim interaction works. Like I want to know if my CX2 radio will work with any Sims for instance, and if it won't - how do I get a radio that will, etc.

Is there an FAQ or guide out there concerning this kind of stuff?

Sims

Most everyone at our club uses the Real flight Sims, they come with a transmitter. Less than 200 new, used much less, works on most any newer computer.

Any specific version that I should look for? Looks like I can pick it up on e-bay for less than $100.

Not sure most here fly RealFlight, it seems Phoenix is the program of choice. I'm have RealFlight 3.0 and 3.5, both came with a trans. but also allow you to hook up your own radio via a cable. I think with Phoenix you have to use your own radio as it doesn't come with one.

Maybe someone knows if the radio that came with you CX can be used on both programs, I have a CX but haven't tryed the radio with RF. I fly nitro, so I use my JR with RealFlight when I'm working on something new to try on the real thing.

Good luck and practice, practice, practice before you move up to a something bigger.

The only thing I've ever found wrong with my Aerofly Pro is the lack of Planes and Heli's that are more common here in the states. That's not a actually a problem because there are enough selections you can pick one that flies like anything you might have, even though it doesn't look just like it.

If I decide to change, it will be to the Phoenix.

I know this is going to step on a lot of toes, but the couple of times I've flown the RealFlight 4, the heli's didn't have the same response as the real ones (Aerofly does a much better job at that) and it seemed more like a video game. This is just my opinion, I realize there are hundreds of ya'll that are gonna say "BS" but that's also your opinion.

I also think almost any sim is better than no sim, if used properly.

How to change a throttle curve, how to switch flight modes.
Phoenix has made it very user-friendly.

Well I really meant how do I physically connect a radio to the computer...what kind of radio do I get, how do I connect it to the computer, how do I know it'll work, etc, etc. This is the area that has me most confused about this whole thing

Phoenix comes with a USB dongle that you plug into the trainer port on the back of your radio.
Its plug & play. (an adapter may be required depending on the brand of radio.
