^^^Barry mounts can be purchased at McMaster as well, with various levels of payload.

You might want to check some of the options here:

http://www.gelmec.co.uk/

Perhaps the finest selection of V-iso mounts I've ever seen.

Cheers,

Patrick

I use Gelmec isolators on my heli. Currently using the Isomax stud mounts but I think the soft silicone mounts are softer and I have been told they provide better vibe isolation in the low frequencies.

The soft silicone mounts are $25 each though so perhaps the wire insulators would be a better option.

What vibration frequencies (Hz) do you guys aim to nullify with these mounts?
Has anyone tried measuring it?

I was told to eliminate the lower frequencies. There is no exact Hz. This will depend on your heli's head speed.

A simple way of calculating... Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Hertz is measure in seconds right?

So take your head speed and devide by 60 (seconds).

So...

2000 RPM / 60 seconds = 33.333 Hz
1900 RPM / 60 seconds = 31.666 Hz
1800 RPM / 6o seconds = 30 Hz
1700 RPM / 60 seconds = 28.333 Hz.
1600 RPM / 60 seconds = 26.666 Hz
1500 RPM / 60 seconds = 25 Hz
1400 RPM / 60 seconds = 23.333 Hz
1300 RPM / 60 seconds = 21.666 Hz
1200 RPM / 60 seconds = 20 Hz

Nice Noobs,

Now don't forget, you'll also have to account for your tail rotor, Torque Tube, Motor speed and pinion speed. Easy math, but that should give you a workable range.

30-120 hz should cover it.

I think we should all buy shares in the company.....

YUp. Nice one Noobs.
There's also vibration from the spinning motor, hits between gears (unless you've got a Protos ).

I think in a well tuned heli the thing that presents the biggest challenge from a vibrational standpoint is the main rotor. This is the item I always aim to isolate from the camera mount. I think the rest of the frequencies simply dont have the amplitude necessary to create a problem

Patrick

I don't think there is an isolator with a 30-120 Hz range.

Both Enidine and Barry Controls have limited frequency range for each isolator.

The target frequency to eliminate is the ones coming from the main blades. Something we can work on...

So when choosing an isolator remember to take into account the weight it'll be supporting and its "natural" frequency.

I think the wire rope isolators pictured with the CopterVision are CR6-300.

If you were going for Barry Controls you'd want to take a look at the Cup Style Mounts - T Mount series for the range of frequencies it covers and weight. I think these are the same ones on the Bergen helis.

On a well balanced two bladed rotor system you may find that the vibration energy is strongest at a frequency 2 times the head rpm.

The amount of cyclic trim offset used to compensate for a balance error may also add to the situation.

Just some random thoughts.

So for my Bergen Observer, to reduce the vibration, with a rotor speed of 1400rpm, which of these do you guys think would work best? I have a load of around 4 to 5 pounds.
Just trying to figure out what to put on this so I can actually have some usable footage!

db, want you need to find is a good military electronics surplus store.
There used to be C&H Sales in Pasadena, but they went out of business in 2007. There was another store up in Burbank that I know where it is, but forget the name. L.A. had a few of these type stores as the aerospace companies were in abunbance back in the 60's thru 90's.
The military aircraft shock absorbed everything.
I haven't got time to search online, but try this link. to walk around in some of these stores is like going to "TOYS R US"
