In the past 20 years I had to plan the family vacation.
This year, now that I'm single
No more trips that cost a year wages.
My four day vacation is simple this year.
Stay at home. Get a few sky dives in and few SCUBA dives in the local lakes......AND FLY!!!

I am finding myself doing more SCUBA dives than flights this summer. Heat index today was 107F. The only good thing is the wind is down. Seems that when the temperature is perfect for flying, we have too much wind, and when the wind is perfect, we have too much heat.

Got my SCUBA gear all checked out and ready to get wet.
Dry suit is ready and tanks are full of tri mix. Have not been diving for the last year since I sold the dive shop.
Pantera and the BBC are ready and I have been working on the rebuild of Pantera I. Thinking of pulling off the 611 from the the EVO-90.

Seems us heli guys have other things in common. Maybe they will find a cure for our collective illnesses now. I have an Advanced Open Water rating too. I help maintain the Manatee exibit at the Cincinnati Zoo. My gear's just hanging in the garage since we lost our local quarry.

My vacation plan is a 7 day, 2500 mile roundtrip on a Kawasaki Ninja sportbike to Mount Rushmore. I know that sounds painful but I fit that bike so well, I think it's my best choice. I did Kitty Hawk and the Outer Banks of NC a couple years ago but never anything this long. Tentaively leaving on the 23rd so if I seem to just disappear, I'm likley on the road.

Marty

Around '94 or so, in a past life, I rode from Michigan to Estes Park, CO on a fairly comfy Honda Sabre (vintage '84). The worst is that my right hand and thumb was absolutely killing me and was actually swollen. If you haven't yet, get yourself a throttle lock for a few bucks. It's a crude version of cruise control that will let you stretch your hand a bit. Oh, my bike had an electrical problem on the way back and stranded me for 1-1/2 days in Ogallala, Nebraska, then we loaded the bikes into a rented moving van and drove 24 hours straight back home to make work on the following Monday. Why the hell didn't I just call in to work instead of driving non-stop, I don't know.

Good luck on your trip.

THROTTLEMEISTER baby. Worth every penny!
http://www.throttlemeister.com
Had one on my last Ninja, have it on this one too! If I needed reminding how important a throttle lock is for a long roadtrip, I 'bout wore my thumb off over the weekend in Tennessee trying to hold the thumb throttle open on my quad for just 4 hours. My girlfriend and I were riding Honda TRX250X sport quads on Windrock Mountain on the Coal Creek Mining Company property. Holding a twist throttle on a roadbike for hours on end would kill me. With the Throttlemeister I can move around, ride no handed, ride left handed, whatever. Helps stay a little fresher. I'm allowing 3 days to ride the 1200 miles out. One day there and three days to come back. I have three days at the end of the trip in case I need them for weather, breakdowns or simply, rest.

I'm trying to get ready for the trip and get what heli flying in as I can before I go. Bill is sending me a spare Tiger tank so I can get some time on the Tiger before I go. Mine was chaffed at the lugs that mesh with the grommets. It was my fault for taking it out without removing the landing gear so I could spread the frames. I have gotten away with it on Panteras but it didnt work out on the Tiger. I had to pull the tank 'cause the clunk fell off. The header tank prevented any engine damage or potential crash. I have been using small nylon ties to hold the clunkline on but this heli was old enough that it didnt have them. It will now!

Marty, congrats on your Advanced Open Water cert.
Now it's time to get your dive con. (if your SSI)
I miss diving the sunken ships and training guys and gals on sat dives. This Motor cycle thing scares the sh$t out of me. I would rather Jump out of an airplane or dive to 200 feet then jump on one of them snorting things!
Mybe thats why I like flying the best chopper on the market and getting my rush with both feet on the ground.

I've had the scuba cert.for years. Did that back in college.I'm 45 now. The motorcycle thing is too much fun to let other people ruin for me. I stay very situationally aware and try as best I can to avoid problems. But, I must concede my life is in other's hands sometimes. Anyway, in regards to keeping the feet on the ground, I did fly a Raptor 50 this evening. The Tiger will be flying again soon. Oh, Bill you mentioned jumping out of an airplane. Being a Commercial land and seaplane rated pilot, I'd ride it in with the plane. I dont think I could jump out. certainly not one that was still capable offlying. Isnt it funny how we all have different perspectives on things?

Marty,
I also hold a Commercial ticket. Started flying in 1973.
I fly the jump plane to keep things current. I have to tell ya.
If you have ever been in some of the jump planes. You want to jump out.

Yes! I have been around a few of those jump planes and you are probably right. I have no idea how they make it through annual. There is a particular Cessna 182 around here that I'd run from...and thats coming from someone that'll fly anything someone hands me the stick, wheel or transmitter to. I turned down a banner towing gig 'cause the plane was so rough. A few weeks later it crashed during a pickup. I have no idea what the cause was but that was another airplane that wouldn't have been good even for parts if my mechanic got ahold of it.
Burned som glowfuel this evening. Working on gallon #16. Another gorgeous evening. Calm, reasonable temperature and only another heli pilot around.

Getting the Pnatera I all programed up with the MultiGov Pro.
Should be flying Friday. IM ON VACATION! Four days of flying! It all depends on how the weather is here.
The worker bees are on auto pilot at work (I hope).
I should shampoo the carpets in the condo from the winter mess.....orr Maybe I should take JB's que and let a pipe break. That would solve the carpet spots and I could fly more!
Marty. Did you get the tiger tank I sent ya?

My vacation is now done.
Flew several gallons this long weekend.
All ships are happy. The BBC is awasome. Today flew in 10 15mph wind with no problems. The Pilot on the other hand was having a fun.
Ever do a stall turn and when your done have it half way down the flight line? Dealing with it and now it's time to charge the ships and get ready for work.
