It should be a larger main with the smallest pinion. You are going to need room to make the belt work. You can find what you need here SDP/SI.com.

I used the 95 and a 9T pinion from an E-raptor. Did you support the top of the motorshaft/pinion with a bearing? I'll bet the motor/pinion angled away from the spur gear when you put the power to it. You should use a bearing on top of the pinion in the clutch block to keep it from pulling away.

Hey Thanks Heli 770. Well when I mounted the motor and motor mount to the frame it is as solid as a rock so I can't see the pinion moving away from the main gear, but i could be wrong. All I know is I need a new gear!!! LOL

Heli770 you can't fit more than a 96T main gear in a rptor 90 because of the tail drive shaft that runs off the lower main gear.

I think you will be stripping gears using a 9T pinion.

I'm going to use the 500Kv motor with 96/10 and gov it down,

Are are you talking about the case that holds the bearing for the drive shaft.

How far do you think it has to be dropped to clear a larger gear.
It's not for you to do, It's for me.

Let me put it another way for a larger main gear to clear the TT components how high would it have to be raised.

I think up to a 96t main it will clear! no problems.

You know I think my problem is that i wasn't flying idle-up. I was runnig it in normal mode.

I mean the vertical drive shaft that passes close to the main gear prevents you from using a bigger main gear - you can see it here (ignore the arror)

You were using the 560 Kv motor right? Why not the 500?

Personally for 96/10 gearing on 12S I want a 450Kv motor.

Shooter - how would flying in normal mode strip the main gear???

What is your headspeed? Because a Raptor 90 is good between 1850 and 1950 right? If you’re running 2200 that may be too much power for the main gear.

Here’s how I look at it:

Motor Kv times no. of cells times 3.7v is 500 x 12 x 3.7 = 22200 (Motor RPM no load)

You’re using 96/9 gearing = 10.67

So 22200/10.67 = 2061 - That seems good before you gov it down BUT the 9T pin will eat the main gear.

I would like to use a 120 main gear (Robbe S4810) http://www.modelhelicopters.co.uk/a...Drivetrain2.htm and an 11T pin http://www.rcmarket.org/gear-pinion...m-pr-16017.html giving a 10.9:1 ratio and an unloaded max headspeed of 2035.

BUT there’s no way to use the 120 main gear without doing something serious with the torque tube gears!

Well no, I'm just throwing ideas out using what I've found on other eHelis and need some feedback.

You found the 560 with 96 and 9T was was good but it ate a main gear. Have you tried the 500 with a 10T?

I feel that with the gearing we have the motor Kv's are wrong but I really really don't want to use another gear stage or pulley set- more weight and parts is not cool.

I ran my 9T pinion and 95T main up to 3500 watts with 720mm blades. I don't think you'll have a problem stripping the gears!
