I'm new to this and have a ccpm heli but there was no instuctions for setting up pitch curve and that is my main proublem right now. At 50% she's not hovering and I was told that it should have more head speed and more main blade pitch. Thanks in advance, Al.

Al,
What heli and radio are we talking about ?

At 50% of stick movement (if you are calling that 50% pitch) it should not be hovering. Mid stick should have servo arm at 90 degree to head linkages and be at 0 degrees pitch on the blades. Hovering should occur at about 75% of stick movement in normal mode.

Not so. It will depend on the "personal preferance" one desires for their "normal" flight mode.

Most people don't have their helis hovering at 50% stick. I have mine setup like my full scale ship with midstick having only the headspeed at maximum governed speed and the pitch at 0 degrees so that the only that that occurs with increase in stick movement is an increase in collective.

practically the same principle applies to all helis.

Best of luck!

radio pitch

Dennis
O.K., I'm one of your "most people".
However let's not overlook that Al says he is "new".
Besides at this point in time we may be of more service to Mr. Al if
and when he informs us as to his heli and radio.
Al; "Pistol_Pete" has recommended a great site.
Although this site is mainly about Raptor helis.
It is packed with information that applies to "almost" any heli.
Check it out, you can't go wrong.

WOW thanks for all the replies. It's an electric falcon v2 with a gear drivin tail. The radio that came with it is 6 channles with a digital display. It has the normal sticks with sliders, the left side has a switch for head up and norm plus a rotory knob. The right side has a switch for norm and 3d or idle up plus another rotory knob. If you move the switch at the bottom that locks out the adjustments to the adjust position and move the left side rotory knob it changes the pitch sevo but I'm not sure where to lock it. The proublem is they didn't supply any literature for the radio. They do list what the pitch cuves should be at what stick input but not how to do it. So there lies my proublem guys. Seriously stumped, Al.

Do you have a pitch gage? That is a must and you can find the manual to almost any radio online if you search long enough. You have what the pitch curve should be so just play with the adjustments on the radio until you get it set. What radio is it exactly? Maybe we can get you a manual or know where you can find one.

Thank you Speedfrek, I have a pitch gauge and some spare blades on order. They should be here in a couple of days so untill then I'll try to look for the radio manual.

I just done the same thing with my nitro heli. I had the manual for the heli and the manual to the radio. But it still took FOREVER to set up the heli for it's first flight. Just take your time and take notes so you can remember what all of the adjustments are for.

When I printed my manual for the transmitter it was 64 pages... that is a lot of stuff to learn just so you can watch the heli slam into the ground.. LOL But well worth it

Just to clarify the "hover at mid-stick" thing. Anyone planning on flying 3d needs to have mid-stick throttle at 0* pitch. That will make the heli hover somewhere around 65-75% throttle. This needs to be the case so that when you enable negative pitch, you have a symmetrical pitch curve. BUT if you are sure you will NEVER fly 3d, you can set up the curves so you hover at mid-stick.

That is how my nitro heli is setup. I like to keep the head speed low since I am still learning. I have about 4.5 degrees of + pitch at 50% stick. Maybe after I get the heli dialed in and get a bit better then I might change it but it serves it purpose for the time being. AND I am a LONG way from ever flipping that "let-er rip" switch.

There is no heli like a Falcon, my buddy has one, the only help for him is another Falcon owner.

The heli has +5 to +7 degrees of pitch at center stick for normal flight with limited travel on the pitch servo. The pitch is controled by a wire through the center of the shaft. There is no negative pitch in normal, 0 throttle is 0 pitch, dont want to get cought in breeze, you cant bring it down.

In idle up the pitch servo drops significantly to almost 0 pitch at center stick with more travel, making it a little scary to change modes in flight, similar to a nitro without a Gov., but far more extreme.

The knobs are just like the Walkera helis, one fine tunes the pitch, the other controls how fast the pitch changes in relation to the throttle.

It took me about an hour to get my buddies set-up, it flies nice enough, and he is

Thank you bigdog714, at least i know there is some one els with the same bird. Now I can set up the pitch curve based on what you said.I have noticed the wire thru the main shaft and think the play in it is my proublem with poor pitch. I should have a pitch gauge any day now and some new wooden blades too. I've had to practice with the plastick training blades they have included in the kit but they are really heavy and kill the battery quick.Plus you ca'nt balance them either. Thanks alot. Al.

There is very little pitch servo travel in Normal, thats why they have so much positive pitch and no negative. The play seems to come from the pitch yoke with the set screw, I dont think there's a cure for that.

I didn't use a pitch gauge, I put it Idle up, centered the servo as best I could, and sighted in around 0 pitch, and that seemed to do the trick it flew great after that.

The right knob fine tunes the pitch, and the left knob is the advance. The settings are in the manual, I think it is 10 o'clock for the left knob and 2 o'clock for the right, something like that, its been a few months since I messed with it.

Thanks again bigdog714. My pitch gauge and main blades were delivered to my job on Saturday so monday after work I'll get to play around. And thanks for the info on the adjustment knobs. I'll center the servo and go from there.

I set up my pitch and she hovers much better but I have a bad vibration. My blade balancer just arived so I'll try that tomorrow. I have a question about the main blades. Mine are 288mm from the mount hole to the tip, could I use 300mm or 325mm or do I have to stick with the 288mm?
