what difference between the two are you talking about?

Money, Power, weight, performance?,etc.

that will help

I think he was talking about RPM VS. TORQUE. THe 4 is slower, has more torque. Thats the only difference. From my understanding the poles or phases are placed differently in the motor to give it either more torque or faster speed.

But still POWER is voltage x current.

What I want soo much should never hurt this bad

Let me say this, i'm converting to e-stratus and decided on the 32-4 for the sole reason i can use stock gearing to achieve 2000hs whereas with the 32-3 had to change gearing. So from a flying perspective i would like to know whether the difference between the two would be noticeable on the same governed headspeed. As the 32-4 draws less amps i reckoned the flight times would increase and the esc will also cope better.
Electronics however is not my strong point therefore the question.
Also i am curious to why mostly everyone goes for the 32-3 with gearing change rather than the -4 with stock gearing.

Common sense may not be common after all

Better option...

Here's an even better option to the 32-4

Get the Scorpion 4035 500kv motor

It seems to make more power than the 32-3 and the lower kv makes it a perfect fit for the 10:1 ratio on 12s...

just another option

Stolla,

Sounds like your doing the same as I am, Going with a motor, to use with what setup you already have.

I am staying with the 32-4, and the 10s packs I already have, using gearing to get my hs needed.

Will you notice a difference between the two, YES, If you use packs with voltage for the 32-3. Just how TomC described it in his post. The motors operate best at around 20-24000rpm. If you use 10-12s packs on the 32-3 you will get this. But if you use 10-12s packs on the 32-4 you will be operating in lower rpm's. You will be geared to get your hs you need, but the motor itself will be operating at lower rpm's(kind of sluggish). If your going to use higher then 12s packs on the 32-4 with gearing to get your hs, then you wont see a noticeable different because both motors are operating in there desired rpm range and putting out optimum power.

On my setup with 32-4 on 10s packs, I will notice a difference from the setup being on a 32-3 on 10s packs. But if I were to go higher then 12s packs and gear the 32-4 to get the hs needed then I wouldnt
really see the difference.

And like da-man stated, voltage x current = Power

I hope this helps, probably confused you more though

Stolla,

I think the 32-4 will still make very good power on 12s. I believe that a number of Joker heli guys use this motor on 12s. Only a guess but like I said before, I think that a 32-3, properly geared, will make ~10-15% more peak power (peak watts)on 12s than a 32-4 at the same headspeed on 12s. Your choice of batteries can easily have ~ this same effect as well.

One thing I can tell you is that the 32-4 makes LOTs of power on 15s! Probably at least as good as a properly geared 32-3 on 12s, and maybe even a tad better. I'm currently running this on a single staged Ion-x at 10:1 ratio and 2000 hs. I'm still waiting to get my Eagletree data recorder back form their repair shop (it did not like the sudden influx of amps on 15s). When I do, I'll post some power graphs.

Jag, if this guy changes his stock stratus gearing (~8.7?) to 10:1, then I agree that he should consider this Scorpion motor.

Cheers,
TomC

Thanks, may be the outrage 12 s's i ordered will help make up the difference
Truthfully i don't think i will be able to use the power of the -3 anyway, my skill level is way way behind that of j72 and others using the full power capability of the -3, I'm still in my first year of flying

Ya, those Outrage packs are great. They seem to make ~+10% more power than my FP Evo25's. You should have more than enough power for now. Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Cheers,
TomC
