e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > Blade CX2 Too Heavy?

A friend of mine asked me to tune his CX2 for him as it was flying kind of erattic. After I replaced a bent inner shaft, a sticky swash plate and some blades, I was able to fine tune the 4 in 1 so it was flyable. Now, when I have the canopy off the heli, I can hover it indoors, at least 4 to 5 feet offf the ground with no problem. When I put the canopy on, I can't get it to hover more than 6 inches off the ground with full collective. Could the stock two piece canopy (the red one with the missle pods on each side) be that heavy? Or do I have a battery problem? He gave me 2 batteries. I've charged them both and get the same results with each. Could they both be weak? I don't know how many cycles he has already put on them, but when I charged them up, they averaged 5 to 10 minutes of flight time each, 6" off the ground though.
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks.

Did you check the tracking on the top blade, you could lose a lot of lift from bad tracking, also try balancing the blades, any shake on that small heli can lose lots of lift.

If you have gone with all metal parts it can get heavy and not fly well, if you have stock plastic parts it should fly fine.

Did you adjust the throttle trim up after your 4:1 initialized, you can move the trim up and get some more throttle.

Make sure the blades turn free, and the gears are not binding, again it doesn't take much with these little guys.

good luck

Now this is a strange one. I would say that your canopy is not too heavy. I have heard of no one having that problem. What is puzzling is that you can fly that long at 4 to 5 feet off the ground without the canopy, but not with. If it were the lipos or 4 in 1 the canopy would have no affect. Does the red light on the 4 in 1 stay on when fly? Or come on shortly while flying? Low power the red light will come on with or without the canopy, but you should not be able to maintain flight that high and that long. This is really puzzling. Your canopy is not rubbing on the gear or anything to slow the speed down is it? I would say check the 4 in 1 to see if the red light is on or comes on shortly when flying. That would mean lipo or 4 in 1. I'm leaning toward the 4 in 1 being bad. If the light stays green for over 5 minutes and the heli stays only 6" off the ground than I just don't know. Hopefully someone can shed some light on this puzzler.

Thanks for the replies. I will check the 4 in 1 and the blades when I get home tonight. (At work now).

I had this problem with a used cx2 i had. make sure all the main shaft collars are god and tight.Mine would losen up and do the same thing and allow the gears to mesh "loosly" with the motors. It never made any noise, just seemed like it had no power. Hope this helps.

If it's that drastic with the fuselage on compared to with it off, it sounds to me that maybe the fuselage is interfering with the main gears. I don't fly mine with the stock skin anymore, but when I got it new I noticed that where the winglets are glued/fused to the tail-end of the fuselage, they protrude inwards a little bit, and they are located in the same area as the main gears underneath the skin. Just to rule out the probability that it would rub the main gear, I filed the protruding bits down a bit and then used some lightweight tape inside to bolster the strength of the winglets' connection to the fuselage. So maybe you just have one of those skins with some excess glue and plastic for the winglets, and this protrudes and sticks into the main gears. Take a close look to see if this is the case. I think that also by inspecting the main gears for wear, this may be indicative of some sore of interference or binding invovled.

Hope this helps.

Thanks guys. All good sugestions. I am home now and will inspect the heli further. I am curently charging the batts, so I'll have to wait a while before I spool it up. I may take it to work with me tomorrow and spend some time checking it there. We have a large warehouse that will allow me plenty of room for testing. I will let you know the results.

I attached the FlyCamOne2 to my CX2 with FlightPower lipo, it lifts ok and now own new body SH-60 SEAHAWK (BLACKHAWK) and that handles well.

I got sidetracked this weekend and wasnt able to get to it. I'm also trying to get my TREX back in the air. Was spending too much time on getting someone else's heli in the air instead of my own.I'll get back on it soon.

Tell you what guys, this is my next little purchase to give my cx some company. You know one has to gear up for winter. I found a better price, but it's pre-ordered and won't be in for a couple of weeks. I was thinking of one of these, but they're a little too spendy for me.

mine has no problem with weight...upgraded swash and head..different battery setup..stock blade configuration..leftover HBK2 body...there must be something creating some drag..rubbing as mentioned?
