Thunder Tiger Raptors 30-90 - Imperio > RAPTOR 50 Tail Tension issue

For whatever reason evertime I adjust the tension of the tail belt it becomes lose during flight. I don't want to go crazy and overtighten it, risking damage to the tail boom.

Anyone have any reccomendations?

thanks!

When adjusting are you loosening the tail boom support clamp?

I am not.

The belt remains tight when it's retightened from the frame and for a good two mins into flight.

The tension from the boom supports will loosen the belt.

I'll give it a try thanks.

One would think the belt would losen itself based on the physics of the auto gear spinning/pulling on it.

Make sure you loosen the boom clamp screws when you tighten the belt.

You might also need to scratch up the inside of the frame with some 80 grit sand paper, or a wrap of tape around the boom.

Like Barracuda said...
I had the same problem on my Titan, what finally solved it was taking the boom out, roughing up the inside of the frame with the sandpaper and adding one wrap of black tape around the boom and clamped it down tight..
On the boom support I took the "U" side and sanded that with the 80grit paper also!!
Keep the boom support loose when you pull your tension, cross tighten the boom bolts in a "X" fashion then do the boom clamp last and get that tight too
It should end the boom movement problem.....

I wrap the tail boom with a bit of clear tape where it goes in the frame.

I think the Titan boom is teflon coated

Touching the tail blades to the ground at all on landing will suck the boom back up the frame. The kevlar belt will not really stretch, so when the blades hit it pulls the boom in.

I went ahead and skuffed up the inside of the frame where the boom sits. I then put 1 layer of electric tape around where the tail support clamps down and where the boom goes into the frame. We'll see how she holds. It's a tough call because the it feels like I can tighten the bolts forever..

Once the seams on the frame, top and bottom meet, don't tighten any more!

Don't forget to loosen the tail boom clamp before adjusting the belt tension or you'll pu the tail boom at an angle and it'll chew up the red belt guides in the frame.

After about about 5 flights the issue has returned. It's at the point where even after I adjust the tension, 2 mins into the flight I hear the belt chattering inside the boom. I'm considering getting some shrink wrap and putting a layer of it on....this is really getting annoying.

how many flights do you have on the belt? have you marked the tube to see if its sliding back in, or is the belt stretching? could you try to drill holes and put screws on the side of the boom holder, into the boom or up against the boom? that might work, if nothing else does.

Never thought from that perspective. I have a new belt on standby, I should compare the lengths. thanks

I had the same problem.. tried all of the above.. turned out to be the belt, it had 1 very small nick in one of the ridges that I never could see until I removed it.. I think maybe a new belt will solve it..good luck!!

In addition, when tensioning the belt, make sure the boom is loose enough to slide freely - stay with me! Dangle the heli vertically by its tail (Tiger by the tail?) and let the heli's weight apply the tension.
