is it when the heli is verticle you give elevator that would turn and push you foward? do you put a bit of rudder in with that? or do you just try to keep the nose (or tail) down in the direction you are going??

any input would be appreciated

Try to break it down or look at it in a differnt way. go with a foward right hand circle first, about half way roll to the right and do an ivererted foward right hand circle. Then you roll back right to a foward upright cirlcle again. etc.. do your transitions at half ways or do a full circle one way then a full circle inverted. Keep all your rolls the same direction. once your comfortable speed up your transistions until you done the deed.

Yes......

Seriously your are moving pretty much everything. It's possable to just use rudder or just use elevator but they won't be nearly as smooth. I think this is a great manuever for orientation exercise and while I'm deffinately not very good at them my forward/backward clockwise are comming along. The best thing about them is that it'll be a long time to master all them (ie rolling with the turn forward an backward, against the turn forward/backward, clockwise, counterclockwise, etc).

What I do is do regular rolls and catch the heli inverter to apply ruder,at the same time I use the elevator as needed to keep the heli level it sounds difficult but everything falls in place if you practice.
I practiced this in the sim. until was perfect, so I did it in the real heli.
First few times I gave my self like 5 mistakes high.

I found the following to work out pretty well. Fast rolling circles, using only elevator and collective to pull it around the circle while rolling makes it nice and smooth. If you want to do slower more controlled rolling circles, using rudder to turn the heli work best, use the elevator to keep the speed under control and the collective to keep the heli at even height.

I love rolling circles, 8s or whatever as it's such a fluid process on all counts even if you're throwing in piro reversals. The bit that gets really tricky is maintaining forward momentum in a rolling loop. It's not too bad with a 90 size due to it's inertia but I still haven't achieved it with anything smaller than a 90. It all gets fu***d up about a third the way through the manouver. Probably due to mental blocks and over compensating with the result of bleeding off inertia unnecessarily.
On the original question, rolling circles require very gentle phasing of inputs to get it nice and smooth. Yes, you can easily do them with just rudder or elevator inputs but ideally you need to blend the 2 together in a sort of 4 phase process to get it smooth.
It's a quadrature rhythmic thing you need to develop.

You should try an electric. My little Rex 500 will complete a rolling loop and its a little porkier than a Protos yet still has an overabundance of power vs weight. It can do loops as large as any 90 entering at 10mph or less, its a blast.

well, i'm looking forward to this as I'm literally just in the process of putting my 1st real electric together, a Logo 600 with all the trimmings.
