| 1. You were at basically the worst possible altitude to try to come straight down for a learning auto. It is easier to have the heli moving forward and descending when you hit the hold switch.
2. Poor collective management. When the heli dropped you were too slow with the collective, it had already hit the ground by the time you gave it pitch to try to catch it. The pitch you gave too late popped it up in the air and then you slammed full negative pitch, IMO, and slammed it even harder into the ground causing the boom strike.
The first part of the vid showing the approach was good, it was pulling back into the slightly overhead hover before hitting the switch that caused the problem, I think.
First do some powered approaches where you fly down and briefly hover and land. Then, try hitting the hold switch at about 20 feet high while in an approach already (descending and moving forward at about 45 degrees toward the ground) just keep the approach going after hitting the switch and catch the heli with pitch about 2 feet off the ground. The hover will decay as the blades slow down and it will just settle down to land.
Good Luck and keep trying
