I have been running a Arizona reg on an A123 2s RX pack system. Last crash took out the Arizona and it look like I cant get one any time soon (in the mail today). So Im looking at a duralight regulator but Id like to run at say 5.6v, not good for my tail servo.......
Can I put an Align 2 way 5.1 regulator AFTER the RX and before the servo?? Its the only thing keeping this bird from the air......

It sounds fine to me I think because you have a lower input voltage for the align reg it would be even better.

5.6 probably wont hurt the servo, if you use the step down you're talking 4.9 so that should be fine. Yes, it goes between the gyro and servo.

in theory yes...but it will only regulate THAT servo and not the others which will fry.

*ommited this line*

go with a Rx batt at 4.8 volts or wait for mail order.

you cant get a 4.8v rx batt though the 4s packs run at nearly 6v.

5.6V regulated is NOT a problem for your tail servo.

Thanks guys, I can place my order. Just to clarify, I want to run all servos at 5.6v EXCEPT the 9253 which Ill step down via the align 5.1. I know 5.6 may be OK but why take the chance, its $7.

Myself, I think it's like filling a quart container to only 28oz because it has a chance of lasting longer.

But if it makes you feel better then go for it.

I have been running 5.6 volt to all my servos including the gyro and 9254 servo on the tail for some time now with no issues.

I do HEAR you guys but this way if/when the servo goes out I KNOW it was not because of over voltage. I may be too carefull sometimes but I like to eleminate causes, make finding em easyer.........

Its not a 5.1 step down. Its a .7v step down, your tail servo will be running at .7 volts below in the input voltage.

Does the align reg have the signal wire? If not, you're gonna have to add another connector.

Fboss:

Align pig tail is a 0.7v drop diode. It will drop whatever (reasonable) input about 0.7v under a typical load from tail.

Although servos are rated at 4.8v, they never run at 4.8v as 4.8v is a typical DO NOT fly voltage for 4cell packs. What that means is that even with 4cell nicad which these things ran, the voltages wer between 4.8v-5.4v.

If you put a 0.7v drop diode (it is not a regulator unless they changed the design to a real regulator) on a 5.6v setup, your tail will see 4.9v which will work but slower than at a typical voltage it sees. Which is not a problem. However, everything has a tolerance, including the regulator you will be getting. Just be sure it is at least 5.6v not 5.5v when you measure with a good multimeter.

If you are worried about voltages, then just run a regulator with a 5.3v output which matches a fresh 4cell nicad.

It is an inline step down similar in apearance to a 3" servo extension with a bulge with all 3 wires hooked up.

The Align step down, ANY step down, drops the voltage by a forward biased power diode, 3 to 5 amp rating. The typical diode is a 1N5400 series and the amount of the step down is dependent on the current through the diode.

If the servo is only drawing 400ma, the drop is about 0.7V

Other diodes will give other voltage drops for the same current.

OK so it is looking like the step down is over kill, could even cause me a problem......Im running an A123 2s. charges to 6.8V. I ordered a 5.6v regulator, so I guess I'll just skip the step down. Dang I already placed the order. So much for that $7.........
Any way I at least feel better about this so thanks guys.
AW cant believe you didnt jump into that balancing thread this weekend.......That sure saves me some time, since I break blades

If you're running A123's, you will want to check the operating voltage coming out of the regulator. 6.8 - 5.6 = 1.2V

The nominal voltage of the A123's is less and you don't know what the drop-out voltage of the regulator is. You may not even be getting 5.6V after the battery gets down to half charge.

Balancing thread ? - - Guess I missed that one.
But the story is still the same, some simply don't understand about balancing and end up over-complicating the whole process. I attribute that to Koll and his balancer, may he rest in peace.
