I spent much time with someone who said they were interested in something I was selling in the classifieds, PMing back and forth trying to come to an agreement on a price and shipping method. I gave in and finally agreed to sell for the price he was willing to pay and the guy just blows off the whole deal. I would personally like to thank all of the people, and you know who you are, for wasting peoples valuable time bartering on items you have no intention of buying, and for not even having the decency to tell the person that you have decided not to purchase it. I think its high time we started a link right next to "classified feedback" for "Window shopper feedback" or "welcher feedback". If you are interested in buying an item that costs perhaps $300.00 and you only have $150.00 to your name. Maybe you just cannot afford it, please admit it to yourself and stop wasting other peoples time so maybe I can deal with serious buyers. Thanks again!

It happens. In fact, it has happened to me a few times. Some people agree to a price and then never follow through even though I mark an item sold pending payment. A little courtesy in just saying that you decided not to buy the item after all is welcome. I don't try to stress it. I just look for the next buyer.

Man, I miss the eighties.

Why don`t you use e-bay? OK, you pay e-bay a % of what you sell but you sell to the highest bidder and get more. You can check bidder and sellers reputation, something you can`t do on RR.

Keep a File

I keep a file titled "Tire Kickers".... Once a deal is broken, I'll keep them on file and never respond or do business with that person again. You would be surprised how many tire kickers try to buy a second and third time. They really get pissed when you ignore their emails!

You could just start a thread with the subject called 'Welsher Feedback', could be a fun read.

time limited offer.

if potential buyer does not respond within your set time...move to the next buyer. plain and simple.

your items, your price, your conditions...take it or leave it.

and keep in mind that selling in the classifieds is like running a flea market.

Fundamentals of selling:

The more time you've given the buyer to back out, he'll most likely back out.

Why?

There are full of opportunities in the classifieds with potential deals.

If you really want to sell something, sell it! If you're pinching on shipping and pay pal fees, you'll give the potential buyer time to look at other bargains. If you want to stay your grounds, be prepared to have buyers backing out. It's just the facts of buying and selling, don't get frustrated.

Keep in mind, right now is a Buyer's market. In everything....homes, boats, real estate, toys, yada...yada.

I'm one of the few, I'll pay "Next Day" shipping and will cover pay pal fees to the seller . I want my $hit "Next Day!" I ain't got the time to penny pinch. I'd rather spend my time watching videos on RR .

Good luck!

Wingman,

If I am buying, I make and offer and once agreed upon, I send payment immediately. This is simply a part of keeping in good contact. I have never said "Hold on to it for a few days for me to get payment to you". If I don't have the money, I shouldn't be buying it. Unfortunately, many others dont agree with me. I have had so many occurrance where I was told, "Payment is coming", and a day, two, three goes by and I never hear back... I have adopted the first to pay policy.

In the 'negotiation' period, either party could withdrawl the offer at any time so don't get frustrated.

It's much easier to know your 'final' selling price.....take it or leave it, no BS.

To add, classified ads which pray for buyers' to make offers are jokes! Talking about a waste of time for both sides. But then again, it's the seller's choice and I'll simply ignore them without headaches, well on my part .

There's no defense for lack of courtesy, I can tell by the responses who the guilty are. Its one thing to ask about something and then back off from buying, but to have someone spend the time to send some pics of an item, then PM back and forth, answering questions, negotiating and agreeing to terms, then just be completely blown off is inexcusable, and don't tell me to use Ebay, because I seldom sell an item in here for more than 50% of what I paid new, not even including Paypal fees and shipping costs. I like the "Tirekicker Feedback" idea though. I think you're right about keeping a list of welshers though and not dealing with them. That was good advice

I try to live by the basic principal of "Treat others as you would like to be treated." There's a lot to be said for that.
