Question:

I've heard references that the Spektrum AR6xxx micro receivers are not "full range" receivers.
Can someone clarify that?
How "crippled" are they?
Would they work in a fixed wing, or should I get their larger counterpart, since weight really isn't as much an issue on my larger fixed wings (obviously, I'm looking at reviving my fixed wing fleet, and am wanting to use the new computer radios, and 2.4.

Thanks!

Sounds like the DSM1 version. All the new Rx's are DSM2.

the AR6100 and AR6300 are classified as "park flyer" receivers.
what they lack is a satellite, remote receiver.

They are equally as capable of long, line of site ranges as a the "full range" receivers such as the AR6200, AR7000, etc...

Because they lack an additional satellite receiver "on a string", they are prone to shadowing, which would result in loss of control of the aircraft.

Spektrum calls it a park flyer receiver to cover their ass.

The AR6000 (which is DSM1) is not as capable.

"El Dooderino" if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

When Spektrum says "full range", that's what they mean - FULL range. They mean that the rx's designated as "parkflyer" receivers are not designed to be flown at "full range" of the system's capability - probably a mile or so.

In unobstructed line-of-sight flying, a 6100, 6100E, or any "parkflyer" rx is plenty for any heli flyer, and most plankers.

I used to fly my CP2 with a DSM1 AR6000 with a DX6 at the ballpark. From home plate, the heli would nearly speck out by the time it reached the fence. Never had a glitch.

If you plan to fly your planks WAY out, like over 500 yards or so, get a full-range to be safe. The AR6200 that comes with the DX6i is a full range rx, and a new AR6200 is about $70 - $80.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're NOT out to get you...

I run a AR6100 on one of my V2's with no problems. They are not full range (dual receiver) but still works fine even high and out.

Thanks guys!
That's exactly what I was looking for.

I think for my smaller scale planes, the "parkflier" class receivers would be fine. But I'd probably look to the full range version for the larger scale stuff that I fly higher, and further out.

Thanks!

2 old,

I run a 6000 on my HBK2, the heli is a microdot by the time I would be out of the AR range so unflyable anyway (at least by me) I know a few guy who run the 6000 on their rex 450's and have no problems.
