I've just got to the build stage where I am setting up the tail pushrod lengths, but I'm confused. The instructions seem to imply that when everything is at 90 degrees there is zero pitch on the tail blades. Surely, this isn't correct; there should be about 6 degrees worth of 'right pitch' at the centre point?

Initial setup is done so that everything is at 90 from the servo to the bell crank your final adjustments in normal mode will be done at the tail push rod during normal mode hovering Unless your using a csm the just do the flick thing 5 times

Depends on who you ask and what gyro you're using but I don't bother with rate mode setup. Center the servo, center the slider, and square the linkages and let HH do its thing. Mine works perfectly with a 611, all the ones I've set up for other people with 401's work fine too.

No this is incorrect when u have everything at 90 from servo to tail slider the blades will not be at 0, they will be offset there designed to be

When you follow the instruction manual and look at the picture as well there is some degree of pitch (don't know the No. dough).

If your using a heading hold gyro then this should not matter much. You do need to keep in mind that there is equal throw on both sides and the servo should not bind when pushed to extreme sides (left/right)

Thanks guys, Having set everything at 90 degrees there is a small amount of 'right' pitch, so I'll just have to see how it goes when flown. On another note: I have always set my gyros up in rate mode, so that the heli hovers with no trim required. This means that when in HH mode, the gyro is working in the centre of its range.

Thats great in theory but in reality the tail rotor requirements change with any power changes so the only thing that rate mode set up is valid for is that rpm and power setting. Most people set it in normal mode, flip to idle up and go fly. What you're doing is getting it pretty close. Centering the slider gets it pretty close.

Not saying you're wrong, just that there is more than one way to do things that work.
