not to burst your bubble but could you please cut all the 'oh how about this for safety' cr@p? starting to annoy my ar$e off, reading all your copy-cat (and that's what they are) comments in safety bashing threads.

Let everyone think up themselves what is safe and what is not, and if they can't judge a situation well enough, they are mentally challenged (imo).

That's the problem, plain and simple threads (like eggmcmuffin's thread about his T500) get contaminated with his (copied) comments about safety. It's annoying when you constantly read the 'following the herd' comments. (Hence my least favorite board here is the Align section, go figure ).

It is not good nor safe practice to fly in your street

You don't live on my street. You are not in a postion to judge my flying there or the circumstance that I do it under. Just like I am not in a position to judge where you fly. I am however in a position as a grown a$$ man to make decisions and live with the consequences. Just like that guy. I'm not saying he's right, I'm not saying he's wrong. But what I am saying is feel free to make sugestions to the person and others but don't crucify people. I would much rather you crucify the idiots trying to sell a Trex 700 for $1250 just to bank off of guys desieres in this great hobby we have. You can get your butt run into at the field just like in the street.

Having a license, cars built by proffesionals, doesn't stop the drunks that you can't control, the idiots driving on suspended licenses, not the kit car fanatics (hobbyists) or the street bike stunt clowns. You are much safer living across the street from me with my little rex doing some hover work in the yard than driving on I-5 in San Diego!!! Trust me.

Is it just ME

Ok i admit it,i have like almost everyone flown or test flown in a place that was not suitable.Mainly after alterations to one of my helicopters which is probably the worst time.I think in all honesty i can say it was on my mind at the time in my back yard when i was doing it,will most likely do it again when the need arrises. Is it that, it wont happen to me thing, come on admit it,we all have done it,havent we?

Not crucifying anyone here, most of us did not-so-clever things when we began, but though I agree that I don't know the street, and he may be flying in an abandonned movie set, if you don't mind I'll stick to the idea that flying a nitro heli in a populated /residential area is not something to advise.

BTW, I did drive in San Diego, and trust me it was heaven compared to what it is around here (but, granted, hell compared to the UK)

You should try Iraq!!! Talk about a hell of a time! Not only do the Iraqi's not know or care how to drive. There is no such thing as a speed limit here. And to top it all off...... IED's. Good times. Nothing like Escalation of force on oncoming traffic.

Good times.

I don't advise flying in the front yard for a first timer. However if I have that guy flying around on the sim and puting it where he wants it when he wants it. I would have no issue having the guy skate it around in the street when there are no vehicles or people around. With the assumption that the heli has test flown, setup is decent etc.

Shawmcky,

I have done it, especially when I change something out. Like a motor. To make sure the thing will start and hover. I don't do an initial flight at the house but I will check for ballance issues etc by running it up in the driveway. I do consider myself a pretty good builder and setup guy. Considering I Quality Assure full size to include some experimental aircraft stuff with Bell Helicopter.

Not to say everyone should do it. Assess the risk, mitigate it and make a decision.

In God we trust, everyone else we monitor.

I am also confident in my abilities,if i need to fine tune something i do it at home so i can return to the workshop if required.I would not deliberately put anyone at risk only maybe myself, but any sensible person i am sure equates the risks in any given situation. From where you are stationed i guess you know that more than most.Take care.

I'm not advocating flying in the streets....but I wonder if this type of "safety" thread goes on in a rc car forum? Most think that it is perfectly fine to run a gas of electric car around neighborhoods and in yards. I had one of my nitro trucks have radio failure and it hit a chainlink fence so hard that it pushed up the bottom and went on through I couldn't imagine what would have happened if it would have hit somebody.

95% of safety is common sense......

You can fly where ever you want. Just ensure you put checks and ballances in there for safety.
I just have one thing to say and it is not about the guy hovering in the street. It is in response to this absurd and stupid comment. Fly on my property and see what happens. NO you CN'T fly where ever you want. Fly in the street i dont care fly in your front room i dont care fly on my property without my permission YOU will lose your heli real fast and find your self going to jail for trespasing.

Mutt, lets not be retarded here. I'm not coming in anyones PRIVATELY OWNED LAND, I'm saying that if you decide to fly somewhere...... You need to take a look at the place, assess the risks assosiated with it. And make the decision on whether it's good or not. The person doing the flying is the one responsible for the outcome no one else. SOOOOOOOO the decision is in their court. Let's not get all conspiracy theory on me here like I'm giving permission to fly on YOUR land nor am I coming to fly on YOUR land. However if you happen to own an open field at Camp Pendleton Ca called call site 12 then maybe you had better call the cops. You will however have a heck of a time getting my heli from me. I will be down there on the 9th or so flying my Yellow Fury with purple flames. Oops.... Can that be a description used to give to the cops? Oh well. If I survive this I'm sure I'll be good flying my heli on unsanctioned land.

Just a note also on this. If someone did come out and say they would appreciate someone NOT flying around their house or street or whatever....... I would gladly pack it up. No questions asked. And as a matter of fact, I asked my neighbors first like a respectable person would. And I DO NOT 3D around my house.
