Aerial Photography and Video > Trex600E - minipro-1 mount

I am new to aerial photography and have been looking into different options for helicopters and camera mounts, has anyone brought and/or used the Trex600E and minipro1 combo deal from Airfoil? Is this a good heli and mount? I have been trying to email Airfoil to get some more info about both the heli and mount but after a couple of emails they seem reluctant to reply for some reason?? I currently have a 50 size nitro but am thinking the smoke and oil won't be to good for the camera, hence the reason for looking at the 600E - any advise/information about the heli and/or mount would be greatly appreciated. Does HCS make a mount similar the Airfoil minipro 1?

Thanks in advance

I use an 8S TRex 600E along with the Mini-Pro 1 mount and have found it to be an excellent combination for our business. We do both still work and video. I drilled a couple of extra bolt holes in order to lock both axes of the mount when shooting solo. Works great. The only other change I made was to put a stronger servo on the tilt axis.

If our eblocker is catching you there's not much we can do. Email me directly at skycam@adams.net or just PM me. BTW not sure how old the Mini Pro is you have but they now have MG 190in oz tilt servo's on them.

We answer all emails in a day or two. If we didn't get back the same day ,yeah that happens. If it's a couple of days our eblocker probably caught it.

Hope this helps you.

Hi Louisiana Helicam,
Do you use this combination for both your stills and video? what are the 2 axis that you lock? pan and tilt? Can you not just use the mount as is (without locking)when working solo?
Does the mount have precision thrust or ball bearings on the pan and tilt?

Yes, I use the mount for both stills and video. I have a 2-man setup for video. The 2nd operator uses the pan/tilt. I lock the pan/tilt axes with bolts when shooting still work though. I do not need to power up the mount's electronics when doing still work and the pan/tilt servos will drift if I don't lock them down.

Not sure about the bearings. I'm sure it just has bushings. I'm on vacation right now and do not have the mount with me. Perhaps Airfoil can answer that question.

Ok we did get you're email I know who you are now. All the question you ask about the 600 are on Horizons site.

The mount uses ball bearing on the tilt, sibe by side with a slipper clutch in case you hit hard. The pan uses an aluminum hub with two bearings pressed in the hub. It's a certified aircraft part. You can rotate over 150lbs. on the mount with no problems. I've seen people stand on it and rotate at demo's.

Hope this helps on how the unit is built. We couldn't understand you're emails about all the bearings and stuff on the heli?

Just an FYI if you fly solo just use two tie straps to hold the H frames in line and tighten the tilt down on the none servo side to where you want it.
