Aerial Photography and Video > Power Jazz--Where can I buy one and how much??

It's just a box where I've installed the electronics. The original idea came from crashing my MJ2 just about everytime I got her in the air. Most of the electronics were either velcroed, tied or taped onto the frame. The electronics would survive each crash but was a hassle to always pry and cut each component from the frame.

So to ease things I made a box that you could easily move from one heli to another. It worked - Plug-n-Fly.

Another issue I was having is static. So the idea was to move all the electronics away from static sources such as the plastic main gear and motor belt. There is no static on either my Trex or MJ2 tailboom. So it was installed between the "pod and boom". The only components left outside of the "box" are the BECs.

What's in the blackbox?
RX, HC and module, Gyro and module.

The box has holes for ventilation.

Either one will work well.

PowerJazz is proven for 12s. Jive is the new kid on the block. Gerd highly recommended it after test.

I wonder, theoretically, doesnt it excist any ESC for A123s?

the only difference between any 'ol ESC and a LiPo ESC is that it has a voltage cutoff.... at the end of the day, the only thing that ANY ESC cares about is voltage.... only difference is, will a particular ESC cut off or slow the motor when the voltage drops to below safe LiPo operating range?....

But i assumed since lipo and a123s have different voltage per cell, the esc defines/reads it differently, or not properly, especially regarding headspeed and all that?

As i recall, some of you runs the PJ with A123s, or did i remember wrong?
Curious on your experience with that combo...

You have to remember that the only wiring going from the ESC to the batteries are positive and negative... There is no way for the battery to indicate to the ESC how many cells are wired with only +/- leads... If you use the voltage cutoff, then yes... the ESC will cut off at a certain voltage... For example... If you run a lipo ESC and you plug the ESC in to a fully charged 6S LiPo, it knows that if the initial voltage is 25.2 volts, that it's running a 6S pack... So it will know that its cutoff voltage will be anywhere between 22.2V to 18.0V, depending on what cutoff setting you have it on... Since A123s don't really care how you treat them, it'd probably be best to set the cutoff setting to "off"... In lower voltages, the discharge rate may be altered, but I don't think that's much of an issue...

Never run a cutoff or set it to the lowest setting. Its much better (cheaper) to damage a battery then to do a forced auto. All flights should be timed.

I agree rerazor, in my case, its almost impossible to destroy the a123 batteries, thats why love them so much

Yep, I flew A123's for over a year. Disabled all cutoffs or set them to the lowest setting. The weight was the only disadvantage but the durability and quick charge made up for it.
