e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > Rebuilt HBK2 has reduced total pitch

Since rebuilding my HBK2 (it crashed because of its cheap construction and faulty design) with several upgrades and repairs, I finally got it in good working order.

However, I've noticed that the full pitch range on this is maybe 5 to 8 degrees, total. I didn't actully take the time to properly measure, but its clearly not very much.

I don't know if it was like this new, as I didn't really check. It is obvious that the servos are not even getting close to thier full travel. They only travel about 45 degrees give or take.

So now I'm considering upgrading the reciever so I can use my programmable transmitter, hoping that this will allow me to at least setup the epa/dr/or expo in an effort to get the servos to travel a little more. And if that doesn't do it I can get new servos. Meaning this helicopter would have been a better deal if they just didn't include all the faulty parts in the first place and call it a kit.

Anyway, anyone experience anything like this with thier HBK2? I'm obviously looking for the most practical solution.

Thanks.

Why do you always do this? You keep coming over and bashing one of our favorite helis. We have all said this many times before and we will all say it many times again, this is only a $150 RTF heli. So please quit expecting it to perform like a $1000 machine. If you really do want to fly it, then spend a little money on it and make it worth your effort. By all means put an RX in it so you can adjust everything using a computer radio. And yes the stock servos work but just working is not always acceptable, so grab some HS55s or s3114s and make it better.

Ok now that I have that out of the way, the stock setup should give you 9* both ways in idle-up. I am not sure but I believe it gives slightly less positive in normal mode.

Jrett,

The HBK2 is just like any other CCPM heli when it comes to the head setup. If your pitch range is wrong, start with the swash links, and work your way up. With the stock radio you won't be able to set the swash mix but you should be able to get equal range up and down with proper adjustment (and head assembly) (+-9 degrees as Chris said). Check pitch range in idle up (with the motor disconnected of course). Midstick should be zero.

If you aren't familiar with the process, check out these vids, then ask questions.

thanks for the input and the flaming.

Don't get all bent when I express my opinion of the HBK2. It's my right. Get off your high horse. Why do you get all bent when I'm stating something that you agree with, but justify because of the price. When you buy an inexpensive tv, you do still expect it to work, right?

As for the head setup, the head is set up properly. With the servo arms level at 90*, my swash is at mid travel and the mixing arms are level.

The problem appears to be that the servos only travel a fraction of their full range. This is either a problem with the reciever, transmitter, or the servos themselves. However, since the servos are opperating in sync, I suspect the problem to be the rx/tx.

I was just wondering if this is common with the HBK2 and if anyone else has had this problem.

Can you measure how many millimeters the swash is traveling up and down in idle up?

What parts were replaced in the crash?

What is the full pitch range of the main blades (measured) in idle-up?

Heheeh. Imagine that. I went to go measure the travel in mm as you asked, and imagine my surprise when the travel became much better in idle up.

Makes you appreciate a computer tx more cause you can actually see the different settings.

Well that was a pleasantly inexpensive repair.

Thanks for the help fellas....

Better than what? Better that I didn't waste $100 on a reciever for my own tx as an upgrade? Yes. Certainly better.

Better that nobody got hurt in the making of this thread? Yes, indeed.

More powerful than a locomotive? Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Naif.
