I am looking at the youngblood ATG. Anyone using this governor?

Should I even bother getting a governor? Why?

Is the GV1 much better?

thanks fellas...

I use the throttle Jockey Revmax in my gassers, works great. Really, a governor is a governor, they all do the same thing. I wouldn't buy a GV1, they are expensive with very little if any benefit for what you get. Another great option if you are on Spektrum is their new RX with the limiter built in.

No, you don't HAVE to get a governor, but I've never been able to get a gasser to where it wouldn't overspeed on a quick descent and bog on hard aerobatics without one, where I can get a glow heli pretty much dead on.

I'm actually thinking of switching from my GV1/SG to a TJPro just for the simplicity and smaller unit. I haven't really started using the GV1 since I just finished my 4th gallon and wanted to "know my engine" before configuring a governor on it. I can tell you that when dropping it down it'll overspeed under power so a governor will help that a lot. This means I can't really PUSH it down.

...yep...

I tried the TJ pro with the SG and regular sensor setup on my gasser and couldn't ever get it to work as perscribed. I think that the GV-1 suits the gasser much better than the TJ Pro. It's a slower reacting governor than most others, but that seems to work well with the gas engine. I picked one up used off of the classifieds here for 50 bucks. I already had the SG that I tried to get working with a CSM RL10 also, but it was just too flakey on the setup and it would jerk the engine if you had it enabled before the engine was up to speed. I hear that the CSM RL20 works well though.
The SG with the GV-1 was a piece of cake to set up and works really well for me.

I also tried the CSM10/SG and couldn't get it to run smoothly. Even had problems when I INH it in the Tx that it would go to full throttle after about 1/2 tank. Took the CSM10 completely out of the Heli and runs good on curves.

I would still like to get a gov that works eventually. Was at a fly-in last month and saw a Gasser that had a gov setup that had the sensor bolted to the side of the motor. It picked up the magnet in the flywheel. He said it worked really good... Whished I would have asked more questions on the setup.

Anybody running your sensor this way?

The sensor will work just fine that way. I tried to get a TJ Pro to work with my gasser that way, but could never get it to "engage". Like I said....the sensor did indicate that it was working, just couldn't get gov to work.

I use the TJ Pro and Revmax with the gassers with it mounted up similar to the picture. Works perfectly, I can't imagine spending the money on a stator gator or something when it comes with a sensor that works perfectly, weighs less, and is simpler.

I have been using the ATG for a long time now. It has worked flawlessly. Very easy to set up and spot on as far as performance. You will like it in my opinion.

Do you guys (with a lot more experience than I) think why the reason some of the govs don’t work is because of resolution between the servo and gov? Since the curve is so close at hover, maybe the accuracy/position of the servo is so close, the system has to hunt to find the correct/exact position (which it struggles with).

I am wondering if we were to add mechanical exponential to the linkage if this would help this issue with these gov’s? There has been other discussion on here that included illustration to explain how to set it up. I have wanted to try it, but haven’t had time.
Maybe incorporating the flywheel sensor pickup and mechanical expo is the answer?

Anybody have luck trying this method of “widening” servo travel at around hover speed?
