e-E-Flite Blade CP mCX CX 400-3D > Blade 400 3D few crash questions blade 400

I flew too late last night and lost orientation on my blade400 and boom; the earth jumped up and hit it.
1st) Are there any parts available for this thing? I need main gear, tail boom, fly bar, main blades and perhaps a few others. The problem is two of the three are out of stock at horizon.

2nd) what's the simplest way to pull the main gear out? I've pulled the head off but the belt is still holding the main gear in.

3rd) what other main blades will work with this heli?

Thanks

hobbyzone has a great exploded parts diagram, rcslots is cheaper than most, redrocket is just as good

i use training gear and proud of it

OK, Thanks guys

Thanks fellows.
I did finally find a nice blown-up diagram and see how the main gear comes out; I'm surprised the manual that came with the heli isn't a little more helpfull, it don't show much. I found most of the parts I need except the feathering shaft, they seem to be out of stock everywhere. I did go ahead and buy a whole new heli off of e-bay less the electronics, now I'll eventually have a spare heli once I get everything pieced back together.

Does anyone know where the best place is to get an extra receiver and four servos for the spectrum radio?

Spectrum accessories

Horizon always carries all the accessories for all their products, and in my opinion, is the best way to get them. However, if you want to support your local hobby shop, they can order them from Horizon for you.

www.horizonhobby.com

Receivers are found under Radios/Receivers. Servos are found in the same manner.

I like Horizon because there is no markup. But, you do pay shipping.

Horizon Hobby

Horizon is a GREAT place to do busines, my kids own several Losi products and I have always flown their helis. They have great support and they are usually the first place I go, but at this time they are also back-ordered on the feather-shaft. I wish they had a walk in option, I just live 70 miles south of them and pass through Champaign, IL all the time.

Walk-in option

You know, strangely enough, they do, but it's only for the employees. They do a lot of internal business. Several of the guys in PS fly large scale, and they work there so they can afford their addiction. I worked there for two years thereabouts, and I really miss the discount...

Horizon is trying really hard to NOT undercut the hobby shops. That is why they don't have walk in service.

Unfortunately, for some reason, the feathering shaft IS backordered until September I think. I have a dozen flights on mine, and so far, not crashes or breakage. Mine has not given me a moment of trouble. I will say though, it goes out of track sometimes. I'm going to have to look at that. It was about a 1/4 out last night, and a few days before that it was dead on... Anybody got any imput on that?

The feather shaft from the Trex 450 will work perfect. Simply remove 2mm off one side and it works like a charm.

It is not advisable to do something to "one side only" on ANYTHING for your heli. Remove 1mm from each side. Or, add an equal amount of head shims on each side to make up the difference. Either/or it's the same end result as long as you're not taking the head out of balance by not doing the same thing to each side. You're best bet is to buy a b400 feathering shaft from your lhs or order a set. Don't forget that EVERY time you're blades touch the ground you're going to bend one so buy a bunch and fly on.

I understand where your coming from but in this case it doesn't matter. You are simply decreasing the overall length of the feathering shaft by 2mm. The TRex feathering shaft is made of much stronger material as well so it shouldn't bend quite as easily.

I cut 2mm off mine and everything is perfectly balanced, zero vibration and blade grips don't bind at all. Again, higly recommend going this route as they are like $4 for a pack of 3 (IIRC).

T-Rex feather shaft

It looks like the T-Rex 450 feather shaft has an offset at the ends and the 400 3d does not, am I looking at the correct shaft?

You're looking at the V2 shaft.
The V1 shaft is the one you want.

Next question Blades?

Has anyone tried other main rotor blades on the 400 other then the stock wood ones? If yes, how do they work and what are you using.

Thanks

i used an extra race on each end then the final washer and cap screw. i also put a shim between o-ring and the washer with the ridge that faces the bearing. measures out good.

Align 325woodies work alot better than the eflite's and are almost identical price. (at my lhs anyways) I'm using the align325 carbon's right now and they work great (don't have alot of flights on them yet) so far.

Stronger shaft

One thing to remember... a softer shaft will tend to take the brunt of a strike. A harder shaft will transmit the shockwave right on down the rest of the rotor system. So, is a harder shaft better? My opinion is you don't want it to be too hard, just in case. Strong enough, but not too strong. Accidents happen. :|

I have an intuition that that MicroHeli shaft is no stronger than the Align's. wthford is right, better to bend this (and the main shaft, usually) then to transmit the shock to more expensive parts, like the main gear if you opt for the part that includes the 1-way bearing. Besides, for the Align kit, p# AGNH1115, you get 3 shafts for about the same $.

I found that if you use the spacers that come with the Align's, using one inside of the end washer gives the same length as the stock shaft. Now just use the other spacer between the end washer and end screw on the other side and you get the mass to balance out. Quick and w/o the need for cutting.

Also, note that the repairblade400.com instructions don't reference/locate the head dampening shims that are used on the shaft to help tune cyclic response. They must go between the rubber O-ring and the step washer, as indicated in the E-flite manual (ref# 025 and 020, respectively; see p40). Of course, always use an equal number of shims on each side (I think 3 or 4 per side as it comes from the factory). Extra shims can be obtained in packs of 8 (p# EFLH1144). Just read page 40 in the E-flite manual and you get the idea.

Hope this helps.

Hello guys

I am new on this forum, and from france, so be cool with my uncertain english pls !
I bought my new blade400 recently, and unluckily expereinced my first "slight" crash, thus bending the main shaft and breaking the main geear. Just ordered from Horzon thanks to all your advice here.

I am looking for a blown up diagram for the B400. Bigwave is refering to it, can you give the link pls ? Thnks !

B400 questions

Hi again

I ask a couple of more questions about B400.
I am a new heli pilot, and it is very tough to find out the right remote control settings to fly my B400 safely (hovering, basic trajectories, take off, approach and landing).

I found those settings on the web

I will try them after the repair of my B400, but gyro adjustment is tough to sort out:
- when > 50%, my rudder controls reach out of travel.
- when < 50%, my helico rapidly starts to buffet

As well, i am not sure having understood the difference between ">50%" (heading lock) and "<50%" ((rate). Indeed, i noticed some heading lock behaviour with gyro setting <50%. Any advice ?!

Feathering shaft:
Somewhat mysterious to me. I try to understand its function, don't hesitate to help me if possible !

Thank you all for your various feedbacks !
Regards !
