Hi Guys

The latest 1.08 Update is now available for download from Spartan's Website

Changes:

• Spektrum power on glitch fix. A small delay was added before the ds760 starts to monitor the gain input. This masks the power on glitch of Spektrum receivers that sometimes makes the ds760 enter setup mode.

• Redundant data storage. Two copies of the gyro configuration data are now stored. If one copy fails to validate on power on the ds760 will automatically try the other and repair the first. If corrupt data are repaired an entry is added to the gyro's log.

• Enhancements to bumpless reboot handling and logging. This update improves the gyro's ability to tolerate severe static hits and deep brown-outs by performing a controlled restart in an already calibrated state using saved calibration data. The restart takes around 1/5th of a second and it most cases won't even be noticed by the pilot or it may appear as a slight tail twitch. If a bumpless restart takes place an entry is added to the gyro's log.

• Firmware version viewed via LED. Firmware version is shown to the user as a series of short and long LED flashes.

• Improvements to communication protocol. Data validation has been added which will enable safe independent development of gyro configuration software for other platforms.

How to check firmware version without PC connection:

If your gyro firmware version is 1.07 or earlier it is only possible to find the firmware version by connecting your gyro to a PC or Pocket PC using a Flash-Link or Blue-Link interface. Starting from 1.08 it is possible to identify the firmware version through a series of short and long LED flashes.

After the configuration mode is completed the LED will remain switched on for a further 30 seconds. It will then briefly switch off before the flashing sequence begins. The sequence consists of sixteen LED flashes separated in four groups with a brief pause between groups. After the last flash there is a 10sec delay before the sequence repeats. At the example below we represent a short LED flash with a dot and a long led flash with a dash.

. . . . . . . _ . . . . _ . . . (10sec delay) . . . . . . . _ . . . . _ . . .

Each group represents one digit of the firmware version which can be interpreted using the table below. Using the table the above example represents digits 0 1 0 8 meaning firmware version 1.08

. . . . = 0
. . . _ = 1
. . _ . = 2
. . _ _ = 3
. _ . . = 4
. _ . _ = 5
. _ _ . = 6
. _ _ _ = 7
_ . . . = 8
_ . . _ = 9

Have fun

TOny

Yep. Especially that image rebuild feature. Probably would have saved my bird last year when my "other brand" gyro reset itself in midflight... oh well. At least thats one less thing to worry about now

It would have been nice if they could have just made it standard morse code.... Oh well, the wonderful thing about standards is that there are so many of them.

Like Angelos said... its on the spartan website.

I do have more info as posted but I would have to kill you if I told you

Trust me, if you knew half of what this gyro does, you wouldn't even let people mention other gyro's names at the field.

Oh well, I hope Angelos will write a book intitled "DS760 Memories" when he finally retires from this business in two or three decades

If corrupt data are repaired an entry is added to the gyro's log.
How/where can we access the log?

raptorheli2: Definitely

Sam2b: You don't. As soon as you connect your gyro to the PC and there is indeed something in the log, it will ask you to connect to the internet. It will then send the log to Spartan. A log entry doesn't necessarily mean that there is something wrong with you heli or gyro. Just that an unexpected event did occur so it can help the guys at spartan make a diagnosis accurately.

However, and keep in mind that this is unofficial advice, if your gyro generates a log and asks to connect to the internet, I would start looking at the regulator, wires, connectors, etc... as far as I know, in order to corrupt an image in ram you would need severe power brown outs in a rapid sucession to be able to screw up the first image.

I just tested the Logger feature... without wanting it lol

If you cut the power of the heli and then change your mind and power it on one second later and depending on your regulator (mine has some capacitors so it takes time to die), the gyro will detect the brownout and issue a log to be sent to spartan

So basically folks... either turn the bird off or on but don't start playing with the power switch unless you want to start sending Angelos a few logs

Very nice feature, I'm impressed.

just got mine today and can't wait to test it. I knew it was going to be good when jason bell set it up and said he had to tone it down to be easy on the TT gears
never had to say that for any other gyro.

thanks angelos

Helis are one thing... Everything else is rather Plane

Where can you find the latest firmware in the spartan's web page. I don't see v1.8 any where yet?

Thanks

You don't acquire the firmware software manually; it automatically downloaded via the Firmware Loader software package while connected via the USB cable. Download it here. You'll find the rest of the software to download for the DS760 on the right column at http://www.spartan-rc.com/products/ds760/ds760.php
