Depending on where you live in the world, iPhone 2.0 software will be out in the next 12-15 hours along with iTunes 7.7

I have the new iTunes already and with it comes the iPhone Application store. One of the apps is a spherical VR viewer for the iPhone.

It wants your images in 2048x1024 resolution, or it will downsize them which will take longer to view them.

You put a 2048x1024 equirectangular .jpg on your website and point this new software to the url of the image and you can view your panos on your iPhone. You can also wrap a .xml wrapper around a collection of your panos to create a portfolio for easier viewing/navigation of all your panos.

I think this is pretty cool, and no extra work to view them on your phone, since you need a equirectangular .jpg before you would make a .mov or flash file anyways, so just resize it to 2048x1024 and you can show off your nice portfolio of panos on your iPhone.

Below is a link to the software, you will need iTunes V7.7 and iPhone V2.0 software before you can use the software on your iPhone.

I can't wait to download 2.0! I've been dying to get panos on my iPhone since day 1. Finally!

hmmm.... from what I just read on the site there is a <gps> tag where you can input lat/long data and the application will send you to Google Maps if you click it. cool!

Thanks for the heads up Scott.

Sweet, I did not read all the details yet about the gps tag. That is a nice touch.

just got 2.0 installed and Pangea VR. Love it!!!

and Scott, it does take advantage of the accelrometers... sort of. It levels the panorama in the display no matter the orientation of the phone.

here's my portfolio if you want to point Pangea VR to it

http://azchoppercam.com/panoramas.xml

Only a few panos in there now. will add more tonight. The ones in there now have GPS tags, but the viewer may have bug because I can't see the map icon.... hmmm...

There are some really killer apps available now. Wow!

EDIT - just got an email from Pangea. They say the option tags camera, gps, thum will come out with version 1.1 as soon as Apple approves it.

Oh yeah, about the accelerometer, I was hoping you could use it to pan around in the pano instead of having to swipe. Just tilt to view.

Version 1.1 is now available.

An update on PangeaVR.

The new version of PangeaVR is finally available, yay! You can download it from iTunes or the App Store...1.1 is a huge improvement over 1.0 since it supports thumbnails, GPS integration with the Maps app, and camera settings.

Aldo Hoeben created an application that does that using accelerometers and a digital compass. Plus when you look down at your feet it displays a map of the panorama's location.

You can see screen shots of it here and a video of his presentation at the PanoTools Meeting Talk 2007 here.

Ok guys we have about 50 of these we want to put on 6 IPOD touchs.

Never used one so have no clue. We also have a Iphone but still no luck.

If you don't mind the first program with everything is about 60megs to run the system. The instructions are lacking so I'm guessing this is the OS? Is this only for Mac users? No other programs like you have posted above can find a program once down loaded to run them in.

I'm also taking it you are running these under video's?

Thanks in advance.

Been there and down loaded what I needed. Maybe this only works in flash? Still figuring it out.

I have 7.7 and 2.0 so I think we have what we need.

I downloaded PangeaVR to my iPhone from the App Store in probably 3 minutes I'm guessing (no I'm not 3G ). Once it's downloaded and installed, simply start it up and point it to the URL for the XML which tells where to grab the pano images. I'm surprised they're not charging anything for this because there are some really lame apps out there that people are charging for. Kudos to Pangea!

Just fire up PangeaVR on your Touch or iPhone when you want to view panos. At least that's how I'm doing it. There may be another way that I'm not aware of.

Are you downloading PangeaVR to an iPhone?

All you need are equirectangular .jpgs. Optimum size is 2048 x 1024. You put them in a .xml wrapper per the instructions on the linked page, upload the picture and the xml file to your server and point the PangeaVR program to the xml file.

The program does the conversion to spherical. It is not flash, video or QTVR.

Ok so I'm pulling them from my ftp site I'm uploading to and not from a direct connection as I have ben trying? So basically everything you are doing once you start the unit is via wifi?

Put the jpegs on your server per Keith's instructions then modify the XML to point to them on your server then upload the XML file to your server.

Fire up PangeaVR on your iPhone (or Touch) and point to the URL for the XML file in PangeaVR. A list of all your jpegs (via the XML file) will appear so you can choose a pano. Should work over WiFi or the cellular network (if you're out of range for WiFi).

Can panos be viewed by saving a jpg or qtvr file directly to the iphone?

Griffo:

No. You can't view jpgs saved on an Iphone or QTVR's at all. You need to view them from a web server using an .xml file.
