| I've heard the 'big heli's' are easier to fly mantra so many times now it's almost got me convinced thats the track I need to go down. However, and it's a big however. The cost is the killer. So it comes down to a compromise. To my way of thinking the 450's are simply way to small and twitchy. I was seriously considering something as simple and as cheap as the HBKII (they have the 2.4ghz one out now - very handy). Blade 400 is out. I've read enough discussions now to convince me that it's a waste of money - you may as well get a Trex if you're going down that path.
I think if I can wait and just practise on the sim for the rest of this yr and some of next I'll be able to save up for a Trex 500 or maybe even the new Logo 400 - slightly larger from all accounts which means more stable in the hover.
I'll also get involved in planks a little - thats even more confusing to work out what to get... but I'm very confident of being able to fly most types there...eventually.
Went down to the local park the other day and watched a bloke flying his Trex 600 (his first heli and he's doing well) and watched as someone flew a little foamie smack bang into the Trex - made a hell of a cracking sound. The Foamie, suffice to say is no more! The Trex shredded it into a number of bits... right down to smoking battery battery in the grass (tore it in half!).
The Trex? Well it kept right on flying! Was funny as... The owner of the heli landed it, but didnt fly it again - needed new blades (slight crack in the wing root). Very lucky.
In fact I've been down to our local Electric meet (here in Perth, Western Australia) every weekend for the last three weekends and there have been major crashes like that every visit! Mid-air the previous weekend.
So looks like an expensive hobby indeed! |
