I was going to put a fuel magnet in my tank, but the tank opening is smaller than the fuel magnet disk parts.
File them down?

Just take the FM apart, connect it to the tubing and then slide each part in the tank, pull back on the tubing so the parts get back together.

mdu6, is that the YS fuel magnet?? I saw one in a shop recently and it is far cheaper than the OMI version, what are the cost of the replacement foams??
It will fit. I enlarged the opening on the fuel tank the slightest bit. It fit without enlarging the hole but it was real tight. Now it is a little easier after opening the hole up. I have no problems with it sealing or leaking.

No this an OMI Fuel magnet, it's just the previous generation with the dark foam (picture dates back 2 years).
