Going a little nuts here but I can not find a shop that has any freya 90 upgrades or they are just hidden within a site. Anyone know a good online site that sells Freya upgrades?

Well, there is a pretty good reason for that...there aren't really any upgrades that would do any good for the model!

Most upgrades are for flash anyway and don't tune or enhance the performance of this model in any way.

So, if I were actually going to "upgrade" the model in any way, and I'd already put the best servos, gyro and blades on the machine (or ones that suit your flying style) I would do:
1) Tube drive
2) Metal center yoke; an not necessarily in that order.

Honestly, even those two items are questionable. You could put the 80 durometer dampers in the head and that would stiffen the head up significantly and improve crispness. You can also add the 550mm flybar and tune it with some flybar weights. The tube drive is beautifully made but much more prone to damage in a crash than the belt. You need to be an outstanding pilot to tell the difference - and uber-pilot Dominik Hagel has posted in this forum that he likes the belt.

Best performance with 7.92 gearing and an OS91 C-Spec or SZ is around 1,900rpm head speed. I've attached a picture of the Bell-Hiller mixing lever settings that are my favorite.

Other than that, you'd only be blowing money on flash. Better to burn fuel and get your radio dialed in!

Chris.

If you must, Ron Lund carries anything you'll need.

The center yoke is a nice upgrade. On rare occasions guys have cracked the plastic center hub in hard 3D. It's by no means an edemic problem. The tube drive is elegantly smooth in operation and costly to replace in a crash. The belt driven tail is one reason why I switched to Hirobo. Cheap, light, and totally, utterly tolerant of tension variances.

You also have the option for 8.27 gearing for 3D using the new 91 tooth maingear.

I would recommend the 8.27 for the new YS, I believe Dr. Ben would agree, it has been working very well for me so far. you will need to procure a new 91T main gear.

yes I will need to do that, also I see that it is wise to upgrade the one way hub as well? You all wouldn't happen to have the vendor that makes that would you?

Hi Brian, I'm not sure which after market one you are referring to, I am using the Blue upgrade autohub made by Hirobo as thats what came in my machine, I do not have the part number handy unfortunately.

ya I'm not sure what it is either, I will have to look tonight and see if I have it as well, I don't recall though. I found on that option sheet they have on their website and they have the EX autorotation case 0414-229 or 0414-309 and 2500-102 Not sure if I would need to get all three of those or what, but it is a silver finish and not the blue finish that most of the upgrade parts are.

Here's my 2 cents,
Agilefalcon and Dr.Ben hit nail on the head. These machines are very good right out of the box, but there are things to make it better depending on how you fly. The CCPM (SWM) conversion is a nice upgrade but it's pricey.

I love the tube drive in my X-Spec but again the upgrade is though the roof and replace parts are nuts ($75 for a drive shaft). I think the auto hub upgrade is a must have. I'd also get a different landing gear (Tuff Stuff) because Hirobo is a little to narrow for me.

The best auto hub is the blue EX 414-440 sprague hub. It's pricey, but a keen eye will spot used ones here on RR every few weeks or months. The E3 auto is half the cost and does pretty well, esp with less demanding flying. The stock auto hub and bearing will be "tested" in demanding flying with the YS SR. 8.27 is indeed preferred for 3D with the SR. 7.9 for FAI stuff.
