After being able to perform the forward and backward flips proficiently, I decide to go for inverted hovering. I can do it in the simulator with no problem at all. In reality, however, it is a different story. After flipping it halfway, the heli is well inverted but starts to descend. Unfortunately, my reflex does not tell my left hand to pull the collective stick, and I just see the heli gets lower and crash. After all, I can enjoy just a few seconds flying inverted.

It costs me a feathering spindle, tail boom and the TT carbon blade. I'd better stay with wooden blades next time and prepare for another crash.

I am quite discouraged by the mishap as I am able to do it in the sim, but do not know why my reflex action is not engaged in reality. It seems I still learn in a hard way even with the help of the simulator. Do you guys also have this kind of problem in the learning process?

Yes. I had the same problem. More sim time. It also helped a lot to set up idle-up 2 for inverted and set the throttle curves higher so I didn't loose headspeed. I used 100-75-75-75-100.

set more negative pitch in and if you get into trouble roll out of inverted it takes less air space than flipping back upright
and practice high up so you have room to escape

Sounds like you are doing fine to me. Thats a "good" crash IMO. You were trying to learn something new. Had a crash just like that last week and had a big smile on my face walking out to pick up the wreckage. It happened at the end (duh...) of my first inverted flight. The way I look at it, Id much rather crash doing something new then while doing something I am very comfortable with, thats a dumb thumb to me, crashing while outside your comfort zone is a good crash, IF you learn from the crash its self..........

the trick is not to care if you crash or not it can be repaired is the attitude to have and you will be surprised at what you can do before you do crash. and remember when in verted and you get in to trouble close the slam the neg in and buy your self a few seconds to recover

i had a simular thing, except on mine my gv-1 craped out, turns out i had low throttle kill enabled, so i flipped upsidedown and the engine idled...

took me another gallon before i had the nerve to do it again....

what helped me some was getting used to the collective stick throughout its range. Flip it over but instead of trying to hold an inverted hover right off hit full negative after you get inverted and practice popping out of it. Then, when you try holding it you already know that you can climb out inverted or roll out as needed rather than watch it settle and go into the ground.

Belt has it. Even though one might be good on the sim, I have found
you must be able to perform whatever, almost perfect to really make it stick in the real world.

Honestly I was just happy I finally did it. Im sure Ive been ready for a long time. I just had a problem getting the nerve to JUST DO IT! Well after a string of really good flights in my comfort zone, I was getting bored, so I did juts do it. Man was I happy I did. The first inverted flight was way better than I thought it was gonna be and in the end the crash, since it was expected, didnt phase me a bit, I was just too pumped to have finally stepped up and tried something new.

That may have made it better too. I thought I had every part I needed to fix it and I did. Except that dang $50 carb because the low end adj. needle busted off! If I didnt have to wait on that one part, Heck Id be flyin right now! (inverted!!)

I have fixed up my Evo 50, and is ready for the next try. Sim is of no use to me at this point as I can do it proficiently without much thinking. I will try not worrying about crash, and hopefully I can make it this time.

i remember my first inverted crash, it looked so horrible and seemed to happen in slo mo. parts flew in every direction( including mine )and i told myself when i was walking towards it that it would never go back together right again. 150 bucks and 5 days later she was back in the air again, taunting me as usual

Yay!

I try again this morning, and I think I will make it stay inverted as long as I want very soon.

What happen is that I break the inverted hovering into two parts. One part is the entry and exit which is actually my bail out plan, and the other part is the hovering itself. So I make an entry into the inverted position from the forward flip, and let it stay inverted with my right stick hands off. As soon as the heli starts drifting to the left/right/forward/backward, I just continue on with my forward flip to bail out without bothering hovering at all. I repeat the same exercise three times to prove myself that this is by any chance not a conincident. Though the duration in inverted is pretty short (just 1~2 seconds), I still feel very happy and the most important of all.. I bring the heli back home in one perfect piece. I will keep on practising the entry and exit until they become my comfort zone.

Sounds like your doing good,I have been learning invert flying to
sence Nov. and I have had my crashes to.Just rebuild and keep learning ,it gets better.
