hey guys,

I'm good at tail in (locked in), not bad at left and right side in. Can do side in but not always completely locked in, constantly moving in a 20 foot circle at worst and within a 6 foot circle at best.

I'm really afraid to spin it around the extra 45 degrees for the following reasons:

1) when I'm low, I can lock-in side pretty well and feel I can bring in around to a nose in, but being so low I'm worried if I "dumb-thumb" I won't have time to recover

2) when I`m flying nice and high (and safe) I can`t do side in very well and there`s a lot of movement happening with the bird. If I go nose in, maybe I`ll be worse off

3) I`m nuts about my nitro birds, they`re just too nice and big to crash!

What to do guys?

Thanks!

What I found is to start flying figure 8s so that the turns are away from you. The first ones will be more like straight lines but you will begin to see the heli from the front eventhough your flying sideways. The stability of the heli is easier to control when its moving, as your compfort increases, broaden the turns so the heli starts to fly more towards you than side to side. Eventualy you will be flying the heli straight at yourself, just remember to keep the heli moving.

Put the training gear back on and take off and land nose in. never get it above a foot and just learn nosein just like you started with tail in.

Oh Yeah - don't forget to put your woodies back on too!!

surely its best to master the tail in and side in first

LIL trick, When doing nose in, whichever way the heli is moving, move your sticks the same way. If the heli drifts right, move stick right. moves towards you, pull stick back, etc. etc. It does work!

Another way to think of it is to put the stick under the part that's droping. Blades, tail, or nose.

And when you're learning, don't key in 100 % on nose in..... in other words, do a tank "nose in" followed by a tank "tail in".....

If you repeatedly only practice nose in for a prolonged period, you might get caught by surprise the first time you take of tail in !!

Valpo1 You make a wonderful point. I have never even thought about that! That makes perfect sense. At first I read that and was like what?...no that doesn't make sense then I realized you meant your thumbs in relationship to the heli itself. Nose drop, right thumb follows bird, drop. It's simplicitically simple

i was always told prop up the tipping wing,

which is the same...

I would NOT recommend you take off and land nose in if you cannnot do nose in...

You said you can just about do side on, i would rcommend until you master that dont try nose in...

I was taught to work my way around a figurative clock face, the benefit of doing it this way is you are only 45 degress from a comfortable angle...

If you master side on, then to go to nose in is a small manouver rather than just wanging in rudder to get it back to tail in...

Build up to it gradually, the benefit of ding it this way, is when you go into circuits there will not be an angle you are uncomfortable with, as you master them all in the hover...

It is quite satisfying cos at any point in a circuit left or right hand you can just stop, hover, catch your breath, and carry on, all cos you have drilled down those angles in the hover...

this is the way i learnt, and it has really helped,

Matt

I bought mymother in law a chair for xmas, but she would not plug it in.

SIM

As others have said the SIM was my ticket to nose in. It's like starting over! But you've got to push through it or it'll limit your progress.

"every foot the heli moves must be where you've put it, not where it has flown itself.&quo

Thanks for the great tips guys, much appreciated!

I can nose-in like crazy on the sim but can't seem to get myself to try it on the 600. I'm just so damn nervous. Killing my cyclic thumb in the process!

Carzan, I never used training gear...what's the best one to get for the 600?

Denheli, an even better way to think of my "stick low" thinking for left and right. Didn't think of it front/back as well, good point!

I was doing some lazy figure 8's with my rappy but haven't tried that with my Rex.

A pro told me he respects the guy who can lock in any position much more than someone who can fly all over the field but with little control. "every foot the heli moves must be where you've put it, not where it has flown itself." Didn't Yoda say something like that?

the way I do it is im never actualy totally nose in, im alway just slightly one way or the other even if its only 5 degrees, this way Im really just flying side on one way or the other, also if you do a circit when you turn to head back the other way your actually already flighting nose in all you do is turn you body to face the heli, this works for me, I have trouble hovering tail in, I always need to se the nose at least a little bit. Actually my method is much the same way as Bigdog describes further up the post, so your really hovering nose in but dont realise it.

Nose in is no big deal. I went from tail in to nose in after a couple of days of being able to hold a steady tail in hover and it was no harder to learn than tail in. Instead of moving the stick the direction you want the heli to go, you just move the stick the direction it's going. I think a 60 degree side is much harder than a nose in.

Put your training gear, get in a large parking lot or other hard smooth surface and just keep the heli light on the gear, not in the air, and move it around until you get comfortable. If you don't use training gear, get it up about 30 feet so you have time to spin it around and recover if you loose it.

when i was learning nose in i would spin the tail around 360 degrees

this got me used to looking at the nose, then i just slowed it down and paused at nose in for a second, then kept going... each time pausing a little longer....

now i can hover nose in all day.
inverted hovering is my issue now..

Did another 4 tanks today, really getting good at side in, I'm almost ready for nose in. I tried spinning it aroumd but couldn't get the nerve to.

On my last flight I drew a blank and for a second, got confused which way it was facing and panicked. Luckily I've been trained not to panic, to just cool it and re-gain composure, leaving the sticks where they were. I was okay and to onlookers I had no issues, but to me, in my mind I thought I was going to crash and didn't know if I could even safely land it.

^ Has this ever happened to you guys?

can you fly towards yourself? I learned flying towards myself by memorizing:

Stick towards the low side to level the A/C.

I learned nose in hover by flying towards myself. I would gradually slow the forward motion down until I was hovering nose in. Then it was just easy...

terrified to nose in :(

I'm with bigdog on this one!
I'm just starting nose in somewhat comfortably. I say somewhat very loosly . I've been practicing it with every sim session trying to hold it nose in a little longer each time. Out at the field, I've done as bigdog explains. Do your figure 8's turning away from you and bring the end of it out wide so when you are in the middle at your crossing point, the Heli is pointed straight at you nose in. The first few times just continue flying the circuit then gradualy slow it up so it is nose in longer. When you can do that comfortably then you can stop it while crossing at the center and hold it nose in. When you get a little shakey push the nose forward and continue the figure 8.
So far this is what's working for me!
