e-Electric General Discussion > need new speed controller which one do I get???

My speed controll burned up today. It was a 100 amp align and it worked great till now.I am wondering if I should get another or If I should go with something else.It is going in my trex 600cf with stock 1650kv motor on 6S.The reason for failure was the heatsink on the unit got too close to the chips on the ic and shorted it out.If I get another align unit I will definitely take it apart before I use it and make sure it wont happen again.

Depending on how much money you want to spend, I would go with a Jazz 80-6-18 or CC80. A Jazz 55-10-32 would work also but it would be suited for higher voltage (up to 10s). Some have used the 55-10-32 for up to 100 amp spikes with the heat sink mod....Ron

is the Jazz 80-6-18 enough for agressive 3d? and do you think it is a better unit than the CC80.I dont need a bec ,by the way, because I am running a dedicated unit already.

Absolutely but if I were you I would run that heli on 10s and really get the potential out of it. The Jazz ESC is better thsn the CC80 but cost a lot more....Ron

The Jazz govenor is awesome and is super easy to setup. The new CC software is out and supposed to make the CC govenors Jazz-like but I think it is still in the infancy stages and not many have sucessfully tried it......Ron

my LHS has a CC80 in stock I am considering getting it since I can get going quicker. The CC is a better unit than my old align 100 amp in your opinion?I programmed it with stick positions it was a piece of cake.

Yes I do. If you spend the extra and buy the Castle link, you will have MANY more programming options than the Align ESC could offer. I had a problem on my Protos with the Align Govenor inducing a tail wag. I never had that problem with CC or Jazz ESCs.....Ron

for some reason the 125 has way lower resistance than the 80,more efficient???

Not really overkill IMHO and actuall it may be a better option especially for the power system (low voltage high amperage) you are using.....Ron
