Scale Model RC Helicopters > What do I need to operate a 450 size quad head?

I have an old MX450 I want to turn into a scale project, specifically the Augusta 109 Coast guard bird. I am thinking the MX450 will work good as it is very stable and slow! I found the 109 fuselage and quad head at flying-hobby.com and was wondering what else I will need in regards to the head for stability. I have everything else I need, a 401 gyro, ect. Is there a special electronic system needed or what. I have a VBAR on my 50 size nitro, but wouldn't be excited about having to put a 650.00 component in a 450 scale heli!! Help if you can.
Also I was curious to see what Nav light systems you guys were running on your scale 450's.

Thanks

Zaa

As a side bar, the HeliArtist USCG StingRay MH-68A has the Coast Guard on the sides of the fuselage misspelled. It has "Guard" spelled as "Gvard". Get a good discount if you buy this fuse.

I am running FlyingHobby's (the Lightning Heli) 4 blade head on an Align TRex 450 EC135.

I started with no stabilization, then used the Helitronix mixer with a gyro on the pitch axis, then added weight to the blades, and finally took the stabilization back off.

The key to success (at this size) is tip weighting the blades, keeping the headspeed in the 2000-2400 range depending on all-up weight and tail authority on your setup, and balancing slightly nose heavy.

It will definitely be more challenging to fly than a flybarred head, but can certainly be flown without stabilization if you do the above.

There is a lot of good information (and links to more) in this thread:TRex450 scale head thread

Here's a shot of mine:

For my multibladed TRexes, I can't get Helitronix in LHS. So, I use alternative eCCPM 120 mixer instead. I use Thunder Tiger mixer called "TG6100M". It was initially create for ppl who do not have eCCPM TX to fly Mini-Titan.

So, TG6100M + 2x of GWS PG-03 for cyclics + Heavy Blades/Weighted Tip Blades + Multibladed head = Multibladed scale TRex450

Hey Rodan & SH....this is all interesting stuff - I've read elsewhere that the secret to stable multiblade uncorrected (no mixer) flight is a combination of a) heavy blades b) slower headspeed and C) forward CofG - you seem to have proved this on numerous models.

How do you add "tip" weight to your blades - all the other factors seem easily obtainable, but I've never attempted adding weight to blades, let alone to the tips - can you advise how you do this ?

thanks

Hey sparkyman...There are multiple ways to create weighted tip blade. Here is one method that I use:
