TT 50 Koala Build

Just finishing up the build and am trying to decide whether to use the decals provided or another scheme.

Kit quality is very very nice, for a TT prepainted fuse. All the parts fit nicely.
My kit was missing the Hardware bag so a complete inventory should be done before starting the build. I called TT (ACE) Customer Service and they had one in the mail the same day. Instructions are pretty well straight forward, and in sequence, just a few words left out here and there, but nothing detremental to the build.

Wood parts were very good quality and the assembly was tru and well pre-assembled. Most of the of the assembly time was spent contouring the "feet" of the platform, to match the interior contour of the fuse, which hold the full length wood platform to the body. On this build, you have to attach the mechanics to the flooring platform to get everything square and then backdrill thru the Fuse so as to lineup with the landing gear.

The landing gear cross tubes attach using an alluminum screw (must be sacrifical, incase of a bad landing) I replaced with a sturdier steel Dubro socket panhead screw. One of the alluminum screw provided broke when installing.

There are approx 27 each 2.0mm screws holding the attached parts,(Cockpit and Upper Cover) and TT doesn't say in the instruction to add the same # of backup plywood plates to the underside of the surfaces, provides more meat for the screws for holding.

Sorry for being so long winded but when you start putting all this down, from the build the flow doesn't want to stop.

Good luck it should be very enjoyable build and as soon as I can I will provide Pix's.

Hi there

I to have just bought the TT A119 Koala. Shame it dosn't come unpainted. I plan on repainting mine also. How did you prepare the exsisting paint work? Did you strip it or just sand it back? I plan on using automotive 2k paints.

Cheers

I built a TT AS355 for a friend and repainted it. I sanded everything down and re-primed it. You don't have to go all the way to bare fiberglass, just get rid of all the factory paint "ridges" and have a good surface for the primer to adhere to. The biggest pain with the AS355 was sanding off the factory applied decals...

I will be working on my A-119 soon. I will be doing it off the ERA heli. that I worked with, but the problem I have is that all the cockpit glass has a blue tint to it on the fullsize so it will be a pain to make this work. I have alot of pic's in my gallery of the ERA A-119 and dash pic's too, and many more offshore heli dates on pic's aren't right. Take care

Yes I will try to make them blue. I've been looking for transparent blue Polycarbonate, aka "lexan" on the net, when I find what I need I will make a mold of the kit windows and take the transparent blue lexan and mold it to the mold with a heatgun, or use Tamiya model transparent blue paint "clear blue" is what they call it, and use on the kit windows. Take care

I used Rit Dye (liquid). I dunk the windows
in hot water for 5 min. The result, is a look
alike tinted soft bluish green window.I'll
post pix soon.

I will be getting my A-119 in a few weeks but needed to know something. The tail rotor is on the wrong side, the fullsize one it's on the other side. What I would like to know if theres room in the tail to make it the right way, being that you will have to cut and make mod's to the tail and turn the belt the other way so it will work the right way, mount the servo on top of the tail boom and to fill in the cut out hole with fiberglass for the cut out they have stock now. Just trying to get a heads up. Thanks, take care!

If your talking Raptor in a body, just flip the tail over and mount the servo on top of the boom using the tail mounted servo plate. It works fine. You will need to turn the blades around, but the geomiary is still the same, so it all still works as it should. See my Raptor Titan inside my 500D (left hand tail)

That was a silly place to put the ground !

What is the advantage of setting the tail rotor
on the left side? Or is it just for scale looks?

The reason I'm asking is because this weekend I'll
be installing the mechanics, not quite sure if I want
to do the Pantera or the Trex 600n

For me I fly scale contest, that's why the tail rotor needs to be on the other side, it would suck to have a dry cut winner, just to lose do to the other guy had his like the fullsize.
