Main Discussion > availability of fuel in the UK

I've been told by Model technics and other model shops that nitro fuel could and probably will double in price over the next few months, if you can get it at all !!

Basically the nitro eliment of fuel has become very hard to buy and all nitro based fuels will not be avaliable.

Has anybody got anything to add to this? Is it time to sell our glow models or go electric?

That was a silly place to put the ground !

Mix it

Buy some klotz or Pro synth oil from Weston UK, mail order Methanol, and Nitro methane and mix your own. I just went to a swap meet and sold 40 cans of nitro methane because it goes such a long way. I generally blend 30% in 4-8 gallon batches. You can saze cash, but you need to either buy flouronated bottles or save empth fuel bottles.

My point and the manufactures point is it's the 'Nitro' that's going to get VERY hard to get. So your not going to be able to buy neat nitro to mix yourself?

One Chinese factory has collapsed and one shut down because of terrorists for the games as its right by the games. There are a few places in the US that make it. But there is a BIG industrial 3rd party now buying nitro for cleaning use. All the stocks and manufacture is going to this 3rd party, not us.

This is what I've been told.

That was a silly place to put the ground !

AFAIK nitro fuels from Model Technics will still be available for the foreseeable future. The price has gone up ( but has not doubled!!!)

Your missing the point. There is a NEW industrial demand being placed on the remaining manufactures. We will be a very lowly second place in the quew. Model technics told me this 3rd party will be buying most of the nitro. The amount of nitro we use as modellers is very small. We will not be served very well at all. This is why there will soon be a fuel storage and it will continue and therefore cost more, supply and demand (legal theft)

Technics said it could easily double within the coming months. This is what THEY said.

I was told the same thing here in Ontario, some of the LHS have no nitro fuel left and they don't know when they will be able to get more.

Nitro Prices

Hi Rbush,i know exactly where you are coming from,i am afraid a lot of people cannot yet see the wider picture here, anything that can be used as a fuel is going to get VERY expensive. Its a worldwide issue that is not going to go away. This is something that could easily affect the whole Rc industry eventually in terms of sales.Money is going to become stretched for a lot of people over the next few years and how long can you keep on paying double the money for anything before it finally hits you personally.

Depends on whether you let anyone know where you keep it.

I'm very surprised the cost of fuel hasn't risen. The only thing that has risen is the carriage costs.
