I would have to say, If you fly someone else's bird, do so knowing that you are responsible for it while under your control.
If you give your bird to someone else to fly, do so knowing that it was your decision to give up control so you shouldn't really hold the other guy responsible for what happens.
I dare say, that no matter how good I get I don't THINK (never say never) that I would fly someone else's stuff.
Because even if I wan't going to be responsible for damage to the bird (if something went wrong), If someone got hurt (or property other than the heli was damaged) because of the other person's negligent maintenance I would be responsible for that.
