Main Discussion > Crop circle and how to secure servo leads into the RX

Yesterday evening was my 105th flight on my so far crashless 600N.
Doing some flips it went down in a piro. I immediately thought there is some technical problem and hit throttle hold.
It landed in a wheat field. I have to say I love wheat now. Almost no damage. The blade grips links were gone, and the boom had to be changed (just barely twisted, torque tube was ok).
Blades, shafts, canopy all the rest ok.

The farmer must have called the UFO chasing office. The heli left a 4ft circle in the middle of the field

Now the issue, I recently mounted the RX delivered with my new 10C.
I had a RD148P before and the servo connectors seemed to be firmly connected in the RX. With the new 2.4ghz RX, well, you see the result, first 600N crash. One of the connector of a cyclic servo popped OUT...

Any suggestion how to secure those connectors ?

Many thanks !

Sometimes I wrap a velcro strap around the connectors. But, recently I've put a small cable tie around the whole connector set about 3/4-1" back from the connectors. In order for a connector to come loose, the entire connector set has to come loose so it is pretty secure and no mess of goo some people use.

I have seen guys put a thin line of hot glue across all of the connectors. Seems to work ok and you can peel it off when you have to.

connectors

I use a thin strip of electrical tape, wrap 2 or 3 times around all connectors.

This is what I do with the UAVs. Works great, just don't get the super hard stuff that you have to chisel away with a screwdriver just to get a connector out.

I use a piece of tape accross the connector block, then wrap the whole reciever in foam (as if it was an old crystal reciever). The plugs cannot back out as, even if the tape failed, the foam is pressing on them.

i had the same thing happen on the 14 channel fasst rx. Now I use the advice of one of the local greybeards and use a bead of "goop" adhesive across the servo connectors and the RX. It holds the connectors well enough and peels off without leaving a trace.

Don't use glue?

Use shrink wrap.

Your local hobby shop should have shrink wrap that will fit perfectly over the Rx. This will keep everything in place.

I'd rather be flying

I use fishing line. Run it in between the wires of the plugs and tie it on the opposing end of the receiver.

Get a life? How the hell do you fly a life?

I go with Topher's method, except I go round twice threading the line through the gap of neg and pos and then pos and signal.

Hi
I crash my two weeks old converted BW Stratus this weekend, cause all three swashservoes did unplugged from the reciever.
Normally I tie up thoese three servos with strips inside a tubeline.

Now I have put a strips trough the cables.
donīt like 100%, i'm think the strips could damage the cables..

Like the fishline idea

That is why Topher and I use fishing line. It doesn't put any pressure on the wires themselves.

Hi

I have just change my way to secure the plugs in the reciever.
I'm using a single wire/cable, put through all plugs, around the reciever, bind a not, put the not into a fueltube and a strip over the fueltube

Now I don't think a would loose any plug anymore

I tried a number of methods of securing plugs; anything from making up CF clips to dental floss. I ended preferring to simply wrap electrical tape around the connectors and rx. Also benefits in being able to fold in any exessive cable length.

I've found a pair of small zip ties does wonders for securing all the leads going into the receiver. Basically, once all the leads are in and firmly in place, I line up all the wires and then install the zip tie around the wires as close to the receiver as I can. The second zip tie goes around the wire bundle about 1/4" from the first to make sure the wires can't slip past each other in the bundle.

Basically, what this does is force all the servo connectors to act more line a single connector instead of as individual connectors. Generally, if I want to remove a servo lead for some reason, I have to cut the zip ties off first because I can't pull them out while trying!

Give it a try. It works.

When you guys say goop, what type are you referring to? There's 10 different types they make.

I've used the medium temp of hot glue with very good results. I also have used electrical tape of a couple of wraps to secure the wires. I like the hot glue method better because electrical tape tends to leave some sticky goo on the reciever and wires when you have to remove it. Since I'm still using standard pcm recievers all of this goes into a comfy block of foam that I cut the center out for the reciever to fit into snugly.

I've always just secured the wires via a zip tie about half an inch or so from the receiver but my aileron servo came unplugged today on my Stratus. Luckily I got it down so I was able to find out what happened. I'm actually really leaning towards adhesive heat shrink for the receiver but I'd have to use something like goop or hot glue for the MultiGov.
