I was thinking about mounting some sort of night vision scope on my old Ruger 10/22(my varmint rifle) and wondered if any of you play with that stuff? Any good inexpensive brands?

I work with NVG's all the time. To be honest the good stuff is WAY out of most peoples price range. Your best bet is through Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, or maybe like gunbroker.com. I have AN/PVS-14's issued to us over here. Good gear, still don't have anything on AN/VIS-9's we use to fly with. There is no difference in a low light level night and high light level night with the 9's. Most civilian stuff you will be disappointed with.

Military grade gear would be great but for me its not that necessary. To bad you haven't messed with any less expensive gear. I did some searching and the best I could find for the money was a "Yukon NVRS Varmint Hunter 2.5 x 50 scope."

It would be great to hear some first hand experiences with some of the less expensive scopes.

I used to get the Sportsmans Guide catalogue. They had them in there.

I hope this helps.

I think these cost a little more than I am prepare to spend. I was hoping to spend less since it is just a "toy" but what can I say...you have to pay to play.

I've got a PVS-14 Mil Spec.

It ain't cheap, but, it's the best.

I own the night in my neighborhood . It's amazing to be able to see in total darkness. Watch out for mountain lions, coyotes, and creatures .

Dakine, I think you need to host a RunRyder member party at your house sometime. You got some nice toys that most of us would have a ball with I think if I splurge for a night vision scope its going on the ar15 not the ruger .22.

MX400 DUDE,

I've got one mounted on my MP15 (AR15), and the other I carry around just for fun . It's fun to see all the creatures at night .

Anvis 6? The good stuff? Nope. The navy and Marine Corps went to 9's about 7 years ago. AN/VIS 6 technology is the same stuff that is used in the PVS-14's, it's just a monocle (it's what I have here now). Good gear but it's extremely grainy during low light. ANVIS-9's are AWESOME!! Almost to the point that the Marine Corps was going to do away with part of the flight sylabus's for pilots and crew chiefs because there it wasn't like flying in low light conditions anymore. Seriously. Dakine, When I get home I'll take you down to the flight line and let you check them out. They are unreal.
