I can't seem to fiqure this one out on my own so here it goes,

?Correct me if I am wrong, But isn't the throttle hold position on the

radio supposed to communicate a 0 throttle position to the helicopter?

I have read the instruction manuals and that is what it stated to do

as a precaution to checking out the flight controls without the

accidental of the helicopter GOING FULL THROTTLE ON YOU!!!!!! Anyways,

Is there a setting or something that I have over looked or something

OBVIOUSLY? I just dont want to chance the EMBARRASMENT of THE DANCING

ACT again. On a lighter note, Atleast I made a few people laugh. (HeHe.)

Thanks,

Jet

Have you had an issue. I don't know why, but if you're in throttle hold when you plug in the battery and then remove the throttle hold the heli will throttle up on its own.

issue

hey stevent,

Yes, I set my throttle lock to the on
position like the manual said to do and
then preceded to plug my battery in. And
as soon as I heard my 2 beeps the heli
started to rev up with my arms caught in the
rotors. Luckily I unplugged it before it did
any damage to the heli or myself. I don't understand
why it would go full throttle with the radio at
0 throttle?

sounds like a couple things here. Either you're TH isnt setup correctly. Usually you set it at -5 throttle. Second, are you sure the TX and RX are still bound to each other?

You may need to check the Throttle Hold curve and make sure it is at 0 or -1 on the bottom. I have a Scorpion 55amp contoller on my T450 and for some reason I have to set the Throttle Hold Curve bottom at
-8.5 to keep the power off the motor.

The only sure fire safe way to check things out with out a chance of the motor turning is unplug the motor.

I learned this one the hard way, I had one do the chicken dance across the bench with me dodging flying tools and parts. Not a fun thing and it sure can tear up your bird.

Good Luck

I will try putting the throttle hold settings on a negative number. Until then I've found that if I plug in the battery then hit throttle hold, the heli is fine.

throttle hold

Hello Guys,

Thanks for all the input! I will try these and get back to ya. Also,

I noticed that my tail rotor sometimes jerking the direction of the helicopter back and forth about 90 degrees when light on its skids? Makes me to nervous to go any further. Is this normal, or is my servos bad or oversensitive? These are stock servo's.

Oh well, I think I am going to find a good pilot around here first to check flight it for me before I decide to hover.

Thanks again for all the help...

That's a great idea.

I'm not sure by your description, but it sounds like the gain on your Gyro is too high. Try lowering it on your TX. I would start with 50% and go up until the tails starts wagging again, then take it down until the wagging stops.

Hey Stevent,

I will try that as soon as I get a chance. BTW-I did some modifications

on my fuse, so that I do not have to take the canopy off when its time

to recharge or plug in. Also I made a telescoping tail fin x-tension so

that I can change its height as needed for better protection in the grass, I'll post some pics later. (Just don't laugh at me too loud) LOL

This is my fist attempt to modify anything in this new world of Heli's.

You did a great job on the mods. They look good.

A couple of things that I have learned modifying helis.
1. Be carful adding weight, it does not take much weight added at the end of the tail boom to make a difference.
2. Charging the battery in the heli is ok but if the battery does something wierd like catch on fire it will damage the heli as well as the battery.

Just a couple of things to think about. I like tinkering with my helis as well but I learned quickly physics and chemistry does have limitations.

Good Luck

mods

Hey rcmadness,

Thanks for the warning...
Do you think that I may have added too much on the tail?

I used an old radio antenna with 4 micro ties. It didn't feel
like it weighed anything, But like you said, anything can change the cg. I read that if you grab the paddle bars with your finger tips and pick it up the heli it should stay level and that was a quick way to check for cg. I checked it and it seemed level. Is there a better way to check for cg?

I sure don't want to make her un-air worthy.. What do you think?

Balancing the heli by the fly bar is the accepted method but in my opinion it is more how it feels in the air. I take it you are new to flying the B400 so might I suggest you become proficient at hovering and forward flight and then start modifying the Heli. (I started on the B400 and believe that it flies pretty well stock) When you are able hover in all orientations and fly around then you can tell how the heli control changes when you modify things.

If you really want the tail up further then you might try adding some spacers between the rear landing gear and the frame. This will jack the rearend up like a 57 Chevy and does not add very much weight.

Something else that really makes a difference in performace is batteries. Find a 25c battery and strap it on and you will not believe the difference in the "flyability" of the heli. I went from stock eflite to FP 25c's and I flew a lot better just due to the increased head speed.

Just a suggestion, its your heli and you are its pilot.

fp 25c's

Hey rcmadness,

You guessd it, Never flown before,

where did you find the fp 25c's? And do they charge the same as the
stock ones? Did you have to modify anything? THANKS!

Hey splix,

My transmitter and reciever are matched okay, I think you are right
about the thrttle setting though, I will have to do some reading up on it before I plug it in again, THANKS!

FlightPower EVO 25 2170 mAh

They charge the same and with the increased mAh from 1800 to 2170 you will fly longer on a charge. However they will take a little longer to charge.

The batteries do not have to be FlightPower brand, that is what I have had the best luck with so far. Al I know is you get exactly what you pay for on batteries. If you buy cheap you will buy twice and I used to not believe this but I found out it was true.

This is my battery set up.

3- Flightpower 25c 2170 mAh batteries
1- Flightpower 25c 2500 mAh battery
1- Eflite 20c 2250 mAh battery (wont use it since I tried the 25c batteries, head speed is low)

1- FMA CellPro 4s battery charger (Big bang for the buck $69) Great charger that displays % fuel guage just like a car and is totally automatic. I charge on this one most of the time. (It balances the battery)
1- Align 4s battery charger that balances. Plain and simple ($54) I would not buy it again since the CellPro is only a little more.
1- Quantro Pro Lipo charger. This is my stand by charger and works well but it does not balance. ($50)

If I had it to do over again I would buy:
3- Flightpower 25c 2170 mAh batteries
1- FMA CellPro 4s battery charger
This will power your B400 extremely well and when you buy your Trex 450 (you will) it powers it extremely well also.

Just remember the B400 will fly just fine with the stock battery and charger so you can still learn to hover and fly around with what you have and for that matter it will 3d bone stock. Enjoy it as is, I have spent hours pondering what I need next when I could have flown what I already owned.

Good Luck

WOW!

Thats great advice!!! I appreciate all that info! I will definately

learn with what I have, and then when I need more power, I will get

those 25's. And you better believe I will be searching for that TREX

at some point. THANKS!
