Miniature Aircraft Nitro/Gas Helicopters > Stratus vs. BW Stratus opinions

I have read the differences between the standard stratus and the BW stratus but would like to know how everyone feels if the parts/price difference justifies the BW version.

-How many have one of each or has flown both and what difference can you feel in flight characteristics?

-Do you feel it is worth the extra dough for Bobby's model or the standard stratus is fine?

thx!

I'm not positive, but I think the BW is the only new model they are selling for the Strat. So if you order a Strat you will get a BW. I am in the middle of my build right now. Since the instructions are not up to date (and on a CD:mad I have been watching a build vid on HF. Loads of help.

MA still sells the regular Stratus, although I think the general consensus is the "high ratio" is preferred. I'm sure you would be happy with either.

I believe the frame is alot stronger on the BW edition after they moved the tail servo to the rear. There is alot more carbon behind the main gear unlike the standard version. And the front stiffeners help dramatically.

fly it like u stole it

ok both of the stratus and the BW have the tail servo at the rear, but the BW has the following as extra frame stifners + one pc damper + alu plastic tail + high ratio bell cranks

If you aint crashing you aint flyin

From what the first post states, I think he's up to snuff on the differences, he just wants to know if its worth the extra coin for the upgrades.

Without regard to performance, I dislike the way the high ratio bellcranks look - too chop shop looking for me.

Thanks for the reply's thus far.

Oh? So they do not sell the original stratus and now just sell the BW version?

I assume the extra frame supports help in a crash and not only with flight performance. Is there that much difference in flight?

Easykill... yes, I have been following the build vids as well. Looks like a fun build
Are you putting a OS or YS in yours?

I have to admit that I have never owned the "old" Stratus, but I have a new BW version, and it is an awesome heli. You won't be dissapointed with it, if you get it!

I have both. I personally like the BW, however they're both very similar.

Just do it.

I am putting in the OS 90 pumped. Planning on putting in a AR7100R, anybody know if the sensor will fit. I know it would work with the pumped motor, but what about the mount plate on the Strat? Does it get in the way?

The High ratio here is meant for the 2 bell cranks not the Gear ratio for the heli. The 2 are unrelated.

Just do it.

If you can't get the included sensor to fit on the Stratus, you can just use a Multigov sensor mounted the traditional way. I am using a Multigov sensor with my 7100R and it works great.

Also, the new front frame stiffeners fit the old or new style Stratus frames.

Hi

I have flown two "normale" stratusses since may 2007.
Fly awesome.

A couple of weeks ago a converted them to High rotia Stratus (Bobby Watts)

The Frames looks MUCH stronger
(I crash one this weekend, Tailboom, Flybar, Landingstruts, Main shaft, Head axle, Baldes and servogear for rudder)

The BW startus has more pop, is more aggresive then the normale.
And looks alot stronger.

The Framestiffners help alot, if the engine is unsmooth, it reduce the vibrations (lower frame is stiffer)

I like the new BW stratus
