Anyone ever had a clutch shoe break? I've never seen anything like this! I have abt. 6 gals. of fuel threw this machine and just after my 3rd flight of the night I did an auto (like normal) and when it landed the engine was off....huh, this thing never stalls. Tried to restart...acted like the clutch was grabbing would not start. Got it home took the engine out and the shoe came out in two pieces! I've never had so much as a hot start or a crash with this clutch setup. No vibrations, no nothing. What would cause this? I'll post some pics later, I'm shocked that it did not cause a crash. Never gave a hint while I was ripping it around the field.

yep dude they break.

I find Hirobo's stock clearance is too large and I set mine at about 12 thou total (versus 20) I have had good long runs with my clutches but have replaced 3 of them.

I have had them break in the past on my Evo 50. If you do a search on it you should find some threads from a year ago or so about clutches breaking.

On my Evo 50 one side of the clutch cracked so the shoe was binding badly.

I have not a problem with excessive clearence however running the same clutch now for quite some time.

No vibrations, no nothing.

Are you sure? I had a rear bearing go on my OS50 a few years back and did not realize it. The only hint that there was an engine problem was poor engine power and difficulty tuning. I had put a SS/Ceramic bearing in and it failed within a few gallons of fuel.

The vibrations (which I could not detect) destroyed two clutches before I finally pinned down the cause.
