e-E-Sky Honey Bee- Lama- Belt CP- E-Smart > Comanche Upgrade Plan - Worth it?

I love the Comanche Helicopter in real life so when I saw this lil Esky Co-Comanche I decided I might buy it. Is it a good indoor helicopter for the money compared to what is available? I love fully modding all my toys, is this one worth modding? I plan on buying the mentioned parts all at once. I want to paint the spare body flat black w/ silver military font and add lights to the tail and nose.

Heli: Esky Co-Comanche 2.4ghz for about $120
http://www.rc711.com/shop/product_i...products_id=838

Upgrades: Adjustable Performance Pack: $60
http://www.helipal.com/lp-0009-ulti...ama-series.html

Airy 5x stronger Blades: $30
http://www.helipal.com/5-x-harden-b...ama-series.html

Comanche Crash Pack: $40
http://www.helipal.com/co-comanche-...crash-pack.html

$250 total. Worth it?

Any feedback would be most appreciated!

Thanks,

Sam

Do you have any heli experience?

Your gonna crash this thing. I am a somewhat skilled heli pilot but I am past the coaxials. I fly them too hard and they fall apart so If your gonna really fly them hard I would say yes go with the upgrades. But is it worth the money? Only to you. You wont get the money back out of it if you sell it.

Click on my webpage link at the bottom of this reply it will take you to my youtube page of heli vids. I bought the lama a friend of mine has the co-comanche its too heavy with that body and stresses the plastic parts. I had it for about 2 min. in his garage started opening her up hard banking full power turns and the blades would slap and shatter making it fall to its death. I took my lama apart lightened it and lengthened the control rods and got it to where it could almost bank at 90 degrees but the n it would start to stall out slap the blades and fall from the sky.

So let me rephrase all of this yes it is worth the money for good cheap easy to fly fun the upgrades is it a performer like my 3D helis no way.

So it won't do banked turns without fumbling? Even with the adjustable parts?

I just want something fun to fly around the apartment w/o spending 500+ bucks. I don't plan on selling it ever. But I would like to fly it hard so I'm a little nervous now.

Can I modify the Comanche to make it perform better?

well chances are you wont be able to do hard banking turns in a small area its a coaxial they dont really do banking turns unless modified. I have a living room that is 16 x 23 with 10ft ceilings I take it from the ceiling downward across the room and then crank it back full stick it would slap and crackle. I think you'll be fine with what you want I had the stock out of the box lama its lighter and quicker than the co-Comanche. I would definitely put stiffer blades on it but this will send the energy to the head in a crash.

I suggest getting the co-comanche as is try it out then upgrade later.

Ah the Lama. A gateway drug if there ever was one.

hopefuly it's a good enough gateway drug to get me hooked on the real thing...
It should be fun to tinker with until I get a grasp on it all. I'm an experienced RC truck/4wd car/rally car user so I'm confident I will be able to handle it.
Sadly, right now I am flying a $30 2-channel airhogs micro-heli around my living room Surprisingly it is alot of fun for the money

Ah the air hogs. You are right on track! Next will be the Lama. That's not a bad step. I have a background in RC cars, raced buggies and onroad. Some of it applies, but if you get into collective pitch heli, there will be some unlearning to do.

My advice, if you don't see your self shelling out $500, then start with the Lama and see if this is something you want to either dabble with or go all out. There's no shame in being satified with the Lama, its great little flier for the money. I still have one and occassionaly buzz it around the house.

Resist the temptation to upgrade the Lama, it flies pretty well stock. Give you self some time then and if the Lama is fun, but "not quite enough" don't upgrade it, move to different heli. Lots go with the HBFP (fixed pitch) or you could go straight to an CP.

I disagree greg I setup my friends co-comanche with purple stuff after he quit crashing it so much its a good investment once the inner shaft plastic flybar holder breaks. He doesnt want to take the time to learn CP helis after his BCPP trial same time as I did. So I got him hooked on the co-commanche He flies it outside now like the big boys over his lake.

Anyway get the co-commanche stock as greg said for now we can discuss upgrades later to each his own you may not want another heli after the co comanche so we can make that booger really fly for ya later just take the first step and get used to spending money pon the hobby. Cause $120 in CP helis will just barely buy 2 batteries.

right on, thanks for the info. I'm stuck on the Comanche now so no need to debate which heli. Im going to buy the hop-ups mentioned above because the investment is rather small compared to the boost in performance/reliabilty that I anticipate from them. Plus, I do not plan on selling it. If I decide to upgrade to a real 3D outdoor heli later, I will be able to do so regardless.
Alot of the excitement for me is detail work with paint, lights, etc. This thing is going to be like a conversation piece for my living room table that is also interactive. (after I fine-tune my skills and the heli ofcourse)
I understand you guys are into this much like I'm into my other hobbies. If I get hooked, You'll be hearing alot more from me... I'm sure I'll be looking to build a nitro for outdoor use soon.

I'll be happy to be wrong here. But it seems that most here outgrow thier COAX quickly. The upgrades are money better spent toward the next step. I guess the "most here" comment is pretty narrow. Since most here are already deep into the addiciton. I didn't remember what it was like to not be obsessed with helicopters

I understand I will outgrow the coax; most likely. I'm sure I will want to own one even if I do upgrade later...

anyway, Does anyone know what customizations people are doing to make their co-comanche's perform at its best?

get it. learn to fly it. then come back to me and Ill tell you my secrets. As far as Im concerned the co comanche is too heavy and waddles like a duck. but it does hover and do a little forward flight nice.

Ok greg sorry bout your toes

I would rather see someone enjoy the hell out of a coaxial then get frustrated with a cheap micro and give up. Im sure you remember those days right? I want to get this guys coaxial flying like a dream and him enjoying it. Then after a while we can talk him into spending the thousands of dollars we easily have in just a couple years.

The whole CNC is only $50 not to bad.

I am slowly getting my friend back into a CP heli he was actually looking at TREX's at work on ebay.

Right you are. But no, I don't remeber those days. First heli was a Blade CP. I got the Lama for my son after I was hovering the HBK2 just fine. So I never really had the easy route. If not for the HBK2 I would have probably put the hobby on hold and got a gasser/joined a club in 2009. That was one plan on the table at the time.

Thats what I meant didnt want to get him talked into buying a CP to quick like we did and possibly loosing interest like my friend did. The coaxial will just be like the girl in high school that would give you a little taste but not the whole meal.

after the commanche we can talk about a CP heli that will fly good and stable for you then before you know it youll be building all kinds of scale helis. Im starting my second one I love the scale birds. I copied my local medevac for my first one.

I say do it, get the commanche. I have the esky dauphin, and I love it for flying in the house. Even if you do move on quickly, you will still want a heli you can fly inside on those days when the weather won't let you fly outside.
