Hi, I'm looking to buy a Webra 60-75 heli engine. I have been told that they are very tard to tune, is this right?

Also, I have been told that they will happily run on straight (no nitro) fuel and still produce very good power. Infact they are made for low nitro fuel, is this right?

They can be little harder to tune compared to os or ys,but should not
be a problem if you have any experience in tuning heli engines.

Yes most webra motors are made for low nitro fuel,friend of mine
has the 55 and 91 webras and he runs them with 10% nitro.

Hey Rbush, where have you been? I kinda missed you cof... cof...

about webras... they used alot in germany. Some guys put a special carb on them to get extra power (löterle or somehting like that).

I use 10% nitro in my Webra 75 . I have tried straight , but it seemed happier on 10% . There is a lot of interaction between the top and bottom needles , but once tuned they are fine .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

I remember reading somewhere here of guys running OS 50's on low nitro. The way they did it was to remove the head shim to raise the compression.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

I run my engines on 10% .
Tuning isn't really an issue with 10% , but you can't run really rich , like people using 30% do , so the engine temp will be higher . The fuel I use has 20% oil (16% synthetic 4% castor) . I only get any significant staining on the exhaust if I'm running too rich or have spilled fuel on the exhaust when refueling .
I did run straight for a gallon on the OS50 but tuning/temp was a little critical .



With 10% nitro my maximum in flight temps are around 300F with the OS50 . This is with a Weston mini-pipe . When I used the standard TT muffler maximum temps were maybe 30 degrees F lower , but I couldn't run with as much collective - the engine is making more power so is creating more heat . The engine has done a few seasons now , so I'm comfortable with those peak temperatures .
I did lean the engine out a bit a couple of weeks ago and recorded nearly 350F . At that temp the engine hung on the pipe a little and took a few seconds to drop down to tickover , plus I could only hold my finger on the backplate for a couple of seconds , normally I can hold it there for around five seconds .
The engine is still on its original bearings and although I change the glow plug around every three imperial gallons , the plugs have always remained in good condition (I use Firepower F7 plugs or Enya 3's) .

Incase you're still unhappy with those temps , have a search on the net , there are plenty of examples of engines running at those temps .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

FWIW, I had a Webra 75 AAR for a few years and also a Webra 52 AAR.

The 75 just wouldn't run right. I had a tuned pipe fitted but the needles always needed fiddling with. After some considerable time I fitted a Perry Pump and that made a big positive difference but eventually I dumped it and got an OS C-spec with big bore OMI carb with cline reg and Viper Head. Have never looked back since.

The 52 engine was a better story but after some flights it lost power. So I dumped that too and got an OS 50 Hyper and haven't looked back.

I doubt I will ever buy Webra again, its just too much hassle.

I uniflowed my Webra 75 (and West 50) , that worked fine for me .
However , a Carbsmart might be the answer .
A clubmate is running a Webra 55 with a Muscle pipe and that does seem very strong .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .
