well guys i dont know whats got into me but suddently i want to get a good portable GPS for my car and motorcycle but i dont want to spend more than $200 unless someone has a good used one,i already bought the Magellan 1412 and a mio 300,

im comparing them both and will probably buy others so i can compare and deside on the best one i've never really had much use for one but sometimes when im away from home i find my self looking for the nearest gas station or a good shoping center and or a restaurant,

i can get around just fine with a map but to find the POI's in a place where you have never been...is a big problem

any sugestions?

Garmin Nuvi 200 here. It was about $300 last year when I bought it, so I figure it should be in that $200 range by now.
I like it because it has the slim low profile design, unlike the big fatties from a year and a half ago.

The problem with this things is that model is made for a couple months, then gets discontinued, and they disappear off the store shelves, so you don't usually see any 'old' models for sale for cheap.

That would be fine by me, as my 1 year old unit isnt exactly outdated. Almost all of the roads have stayed the same, and I have still yet to get lost.

"El Dooderino" if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

yeah i've seen the Garmin Nuvi 200 at the local best buy and the circuit city, they are pretty cheap but the screen is only 3.5 and im looking for something with a 4.3 wide screen,

the magellan 1412 was about $164 after taxes at costco and the mio 300 was $185 after taxes at the local radio shack,so far both are good and they are slim and very portable but im looking around to see if anyone had experience with something better for the $200 price range,

like i said i can get around just fine but if im spending the money on a GPS it better be worth it,i've been truck driving for a few years now so i never used a GPS but there is times when you end up spending a day or two till the dispacher gives you a load to keep on trucking,

it would be nice to find some good shoping malls or...i dont know a hobby shop around the place rather than having to find a phone book like i used to do and waste some valuable sleeper time, oh yeah and some company diesel

by the way Dood the nuvi 200 goes for $169.99 at circuit city,so yeah thats a good price considering that garmin makes just as good a quality as magellan does,im also considering a tom tom,

i like that the tom tom can be updated for free since they have a forum where all users can share their maps and you can also update it or should i say edit your roads should you find a new street or a closed street that wasn't closed before, that is a big plus in functionality

also the sales guy at the local radio shack told me about the navigon,he said something about traffic updates for life when you pay a one time subscription of $50,

hmmm thats another thing to consider but i very much doubt they would give you traffic updates for life for such a small fee, most services are around $50 and up but is per year,im thinking maybe he just wanted to make a sale

navigon

I bought on to try them took it back. The volume was to low, it was difficult to program on the fly and I did not see those 3D road with signs on my highway test.

Decided to stay with my Tom Tom. You can get traffic for free via blue tooth from your cell if you have a data package and do updates on the road. Plus the voices are very loud and can be heard over the radio or the wind and they are very clear and human sounding. The Navigon sounded a bit computerish.

Wife and kids bought me a garmin nuvi 260w for fathers day. I'd never have bought it myself,<not this specific one, just a gps unit in general) but after having it a few weeks I do like it. You can find it for 200.

I got a Garmin Nuvi 350 for $200 from walmart.com - great PNS for the money (personal navigation system).

Or you can wait another 6mo.-1yr and buy a new cell phone that will have GPS based navigation built into it as all the iPhone clones start flooding in.

i found this one,it really called my attention, but Cnet said it wasn't sutch a great unit but the review seems a bit old

http://www.refurbdepot.com/productd...efererid=nextag

the price seems pretty fair considering it is a multimidia usnit of corse it is a refurb but would probably be worth the money,im not sure i want the video and jpeg features since i already have an ipod and other gismos that just colect dust but seems like a good unit

heli21

thats a great unit but i cant justify such an expensive unit,i would love to own one but i wouldnt have much use for that one

Widescreen for under $200. I've got 3 Nuvi 350s, and wouldn't trade them for anything. I know at least 6 or 7 people that also use them and feel the same...
Good luck.

I don't think the Nuvi 200 announces the name of the street you are approaching, the Nuvi 350 does do this - it's a very good feature. I specifically looked for a non-wide screen as I wanted the smaller one to carry with me. My bro-inlaw bought the 260W and really like it, but no mulimedia, if that's important to you (350 can play MP3's and JPG viewer). There are some annoying limitations such as only one way-point and it doesn't give much more information other than getting from point A to point B. But for what it is it's good.

Only Garmin. I made the mistake of buying a Magellen, took it right back and exchanged for Garmin 800.

I love my Garmin. The size is definitely a plus. It has the standard car mode, but if you want to carry it, it also has foot mode, where it becomes more precise giving you footage instead of miles. Has motorcycle and boat mode too, if I remember correctly. I get a full 8 hours out of my battery, as well. The 350 is an awesome unit, and it's only about $50 more than you want to spend...

Lowrance XOG

I´m a Lowrance guy, I have a Lowrance 525C on my bass boat, a XOG on my Polaris RZR, the XOG is a crossover, is for auto, moto, and trail usage, I use it on the RZR for routing, and it works great, it was like 240 usd if I'm not wrong, it has touchscreen, has mp3 player and it's small enough for putting it on the motorcycle.

You can't go wrong with Lowrance,
